Wiring Update

I'm using a wiper switch in the heater switch hole for the DIP switch. I had to make the hole a little smaller to accommodate the smaller switch.

Fender washer JB welded on the back:

Smaller washer cut down and JB Welded on the front, then ground smooth:

Before I started the wiring, I clear coated the back of the dash to preserve the build codes

Here's the dash completely wired

All the wires are black with the ends identified with printed labels covered in clear shrink tube.

Here's the completed relay board that will be mounted on the right fender by the firewall.

Now, I can hook these up outside the car and test everything before it goes in the car. Basically, everything is done besides hooking up the lights and fuel pump. The rest of the details are in my blog: https://doan.us/blog

Yeah.... I knew the all black would be controversial. I did it partially for the convenience of not having to figure out how much of each color/gauge wire to buy, and partially for aesthetics. The wiring is very well documented and, other than my children, I don't expect anyone else to ever work on it. While planning my own, I looked at the kits from companies like "painless". They have a show-car version that is all black, I'm not the only one to have done something like this.

This is a 2 owner car that has been in the family since 1986, A Texas car that my FIL bought from the original owner. I will give to a grandkid someday....

This should be a big improvement over the standard electrical system. I like your idea of tagging the wires and covering them with clear shrink-wrap. I wish I'd thought of that.

I did something very similar with my MG TD. I put the relays in a box under the dash, with the fuses on the outside for easy access. I used connectors on the wiring to the box, so it can be removed easily if necessary.

Steve, Some of my ideas came from reading what you did with your Bugeye, but I wanted it more centralized like I have now seen that you did on your TD. Coincidentally, a couple days ago I was looking for some heavy duty multi-pin connectors to make the dash easily removable. I found the same Cinch Jones that you used. They are good for 10 amps which should be fine for everything that goes through the dash. I also think that those connectors have been around for a while and might be considered "period correct"
