Wife...car...wife...car up-date: SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!

well, i used the new car depreciation approach as well as the 'it makes me happy, thus helping us be happy' approach and heres what i got:

"I'll give you your Healey but, you're right we need to do some negotiating."
"Your hobby can never affect the "basic" needs of our family (housing, food, utilities, clothes for the kids ...)"

(kidS being the operative word...we only have one right now...)

"I want to go on vacations on a regular basis and I want to make this family priority."
"I foresee me needing some new clothes for fall/winter, and I would like a lump sum to spend at my lesiure without worrying about it affecting your car"


Not to bad, fair i'd say!

I decided to keep my mouth shut on the original thread, since my 25 years of marriage prove I know absolutely nothing about women. But whenever my DW tries to trade off her needs, I tell her that she can have anything she wants, anytime she wants. But I'm a big boy and will make whatever decisions about my life as I chose, and I don't need anyone's approval.

Then she gives me a smack, tells me to shut up and I go back into the corner. No, no, noooo. That doesn't happen. She sulks a bit but knows that I'm right. It's a 2 way street, and every once in a while you get to do something for yourself and nobody gets to veto it.

that remindes me of a time when my wife worked for the FBI in Washingotn DC and she had the office group over for a summer cookout. After going into the garage and seeing my two Healeys and two vintage BMW motorcycles one of the guys quoted "my wife would never let me have any of these", I had to remind him that he was the one who carried a gun. In all seriousness, marriage is not suppose to be about denial, but about helping the better half fulfill their dreams and desires. I'm sure my wife has no real joy in my mechanical tinkerings, but she supports me in my hobbies as I do with hers. And yes, my family always comes first, that's why I am 35 years into a two year project.

Can't play deaf with my wife. She's a pro at it and I'm just a rank amatuer. She finds ways to ignore me that I'd never even think of. Frankly, I'm impressed, but I'd never let her know that.

I bought the Healey for my wife. On a special birthday. She drives it to work every day. And loves every mile. I work on it and maintain it. And drive it whenever I want. Which is far fewer miles than she drives it, but probably more than the average Healey owner.

We are happy. Very happy.

My wife's an Audiologist (AUD); she'd slap hearing aids in my head so fast, I'd never know what hit me!
