TR2/3/3A Widscreen washer pump knob

Hi, I'm trying to locate a windscreen washer (manual pump type) control knob. The one I'm looking for is (so I am told) the original one with the words "screen washer push" printed on the face. Does anyone have any ideas where I can buy one or does anyone have a good second hand spare available for purchase?

Many thanks

Graeme

Hello Graeme,

I have the same question posted in the classifieds. If you find an extra one, let me know. Will do the same.

Regards,

Walter

Teri Ann Wakeman has a good picture reference to help you with the hunt:

I managed to find one on ebay, they come up once in a while - no one to my knowledge makes a reproduction of this knob.

Was this an option on the TR3A? My TR3A was fitted with wiper washer jets in front of the windscreen but no pump or assembly. Was this an option on the TR3A and is this the correct mounting location for this pump? For TR3A, where would the reservoir be mounted? Thanks for any help or references on where I can learn about this.

Pat

Yes, I believe it was an option for the 3A, and that location is the most common although I believe it was a dealer installed item so locations may vary. Drivers side inner fender is where I've always seen the reservoir but I don't have a picture.

Hello Graeme,

Your find looks much the same except without the white ring on the edge and possibly not as glossy. Here it gets complicated. Checking my vendor's comment on his advertisement comparing his item to the Moss version, that Moss (US) number is a reproduction for the MGA and AH 100, 3000 models equipped with the washer. That Moss Knob is available separately but there is only a drawing and the pump does not have a separate number as it is part of a kit. Those Moss knobs may be the same/similar to the ones we found. However, given the vendor's comparison (and his is a threaded version), I am guessing that the replica Moss US pumps for MGA and AH are threaded as well (again there only rough drawings).

I have been checking on pumps for my TR3A, since my current one is one of those simple black plastic plunger types. Again, Moss USA only provides one as part of a kit (and they specify it for TR4/4A only), but they sent me some pictures and it looks exactly like the one Moss (UK/Europe) sells as a separate and they are threaded for the knobs. The knob provided in the US kit is clearly for the TR4. I sent questions to Moss UK and should hear from them tomorrow. While they list it with a photo as being for the TR4/4A, it is also specified for TR2/3 in the catalog lines. My guess is that the front bezel part that makes it conform to the TR4 dash is removable - and Moss US suggests that it might be - by removing two retaining nuts. It is also very possible that they are using the same pumps for the TRs and the MG/AH solutions but with different bezels. Here are some photos.

Moss USA and Moss UK market their parts differently; sometimes as separates, sometimes as packages - and of course they have different numbering systems, with Moss UK adhering to the original TR factory numbers - but they are rarely different parts in my limited experience. Mind you, it is only deduction but given all of this, I think the knob from my vendor (and likely the part from your source) will fit on one of the Moss replica (not replacement) pumps; possibly also on an original pump with threaded fitting. If not, I would make mine fit.

And here is the kicker. While poking around on Moss UK pages to compare the MGA/AH parts, I found that they sell the pump and knob as an assembly. The knob looks like the version you found: https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=15648

So much for my obsessive-compulsive investigations....will let know what Moss UK tells me.

Regards,

Walter

Hi Walter, it's getting complicated isn't it, I actually bought one of the pumps in the photo you listed from TRGB but am intending to send ut back as I thought it was for the 4a. I've attached a link to a unit that I've just bought from EBay which whilst it clearly isn't the correct unit, I'm starting to think it may be the best I can get. Hopefully I'll unearthed the right one at some point.

Hello Graeme,

I was watching the same auction. It certainly is close and will look good with the rest of the dash panel.

Walter

Graeme,

Moss UK checked what is available. In addition to the TR pump (which we know to be configured for the TR4/4A, they sent me a photo of their MGA pump #27H9624 (Moss USA # 565-055). It has 3 nozzles in the back like their TR version (1 in/2 out), and I think this is as good as it gets for the TR3 series from the reproduction market. Moss USA also sells the knob separately. See photo with bezels removed. - Regards, Walter
