"This 1967 Triumph GT6 was a daily driver <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">until the battery died in 1985</span></span> and it's been sitting since."

$25 for a battery, or 25 years worth of neglect plus battery. You pick.

sounds like it probably had other problems they didn't want to fix. I don't see how anybody in their right mind (yeah I know, with british cars we can't be in our right minds) would let a car sit for a battery that at the time probably cost $15 or $20.

Interesting discussion. I had a hot 72 Capri. I brought it to the dealer as the windshield wipers were recalled as they had a tendency to fly off. Saw a few pairs sail over the top in my time. Started the car up at the dealer and drove it home. Never started again. I never did figure out what happened.Started taking the motor apart again and lost interest and met my ex wife.
Sold it to a room mate when I was about to move to Seattle.
Wish I new what happened to that car.

Yeah, but you never figured out what was wrong. This guy however to his knowledge, was JUST the battery, so why not just see if youre right?

I remember getting a free BMW because they guy didnt know what it was, claimed it was the motor, and abandoned it. Turns out, it just needed a $60 fuel pump. My husband got a porsche 928 for $3200, because the owner didnt know what was wrong with it... ...ended up just needing $10 worth of relays. Sick thing is, both were left at an autoshop. (another reason I have problems trusting "professionals")

Though your capri was probably much cooler than ours, we had to sell our 92 capri because we could never figure out what was wrong with it... ...but if we knew it was just the battery, believe me, we would have bought one, even though it had several other issues. We actually had everything we needed for a manual transmission swap, which we believed would fix the issue, but sold it to an enthusiast because we had too many projects, and at the end of the day, it was still just a 1992 capri. Those were pretty much throw away cars. Its really sad when manufacturers make such a vehicle.
