Why...does everything that is worth owning cost at least $500?

I lucked out and got a $550 miter saw for $75 and now need a table saw. I've been looking on CL for a used one but nothing worth having can be found. When I look at new saws.... the only thing worth owning STARTS at $500.

Might as well buy me some liquor...
 
Hope you don't spend $500 on booze! ;D

Craftsman, at least 30 years old, back when Craftsman actually made good power tools.

Good locally-brewed beer too.
 
I found an old cast iron craftsman for $100 that I would buy but it doesn't have a fence and I can't find one.

Yep, the table on mine is cast. (but I have a fence) It's odd for a table saw to be missing the fence. Too bad. You could probably cobble one up with some c-clamps and a nice straight piece of steel, but it would be a pain to move.
 
I've a couple radial-arm ones here ya could have use of... but ya gotta come to 'em. Shipping would be a bit ugly.
 
Since you are looking for a fence with the saw it sounds like you want to rip with it. Unless you are going into production or have an awful lot to rip you can rip most things with a Skil saw and a rip guide. Just use a good blade and either have someone hold the piece or clamp it. I find it easier to control the saw rather than a long board.
 
Consider estate, moving, going out of business and other local sales too if you want to spend the time prowling them. Could find a good buy that way.
 
When looking for a used saw, concentrate on those with red stains. They're usually cheaper.

Yep, nuthin' but and I guess you could call it production. My buddy is a cabinet maker. I'm recycling all of his birch scrap into "canvas" for my artwork. Y'all haven't seen what I've been doing lately but it mounts much better on wood. Having it be birch and recycled is even better. I need to rip 3/4" birch plywood pices that are about 4-6" wide into 1" strips. These will make the frame that the 1/4" birch plywood front mounts on.

Why don't I use his saw? cause he aint offered, needds it for work and I'm not pushing my luck. He's saving me a bunch by giving me his cast offs.

I found a few fences on ebay for the craftsman maybe but would hate to take a chance.
 
Just found out craftsman saw is gone. I may go buy the $369 Dewalt for HD. This should be this much trouble....

So, when are you going to show us?
 
For that kind of sawing you can pick up a contractors saw for a lot less at HF. Or, even a saw table - I used one for years and could get very accurate if I took my time. Or, go on CL and offer to rent one (talk to the local high school teacher)

I tried to get picks but not much light where it currently is and I can't move it. it's still in a show and sold to the hospital. I'll post what I have but the pic sucks.
