Here it is with all the components back on.

The paint was custom-mixed, some sort of enamel.

Here it is set in place. Still want to change the coolant temp sensor, so won't bolt it in until I do that, but almost there!

To show that I'm not against creative color schemes, here is the engine from my 4A. The green is a tribute to the car's original color, and the block is aluminum for weight :smile: (also to match the aluminum sump and head).

The exhaust manifolds were sand blasted, then painted with Rustoleum 2000F primer and paint.
 
All back together, it even runs! Need to clean up the garage a bit more, then time for a test drive!

Did a quick test drive, everything seems to be fine. I don't think I vented any coolant, though it was raining a bit so I can't be certain. I'll run the exhaust gas test in a few days. I used to have an "air leak" noise that I thought was due to a hole in my muffler, but that is gone now. Only happened on acceleration. Could that have been leakage around the head gasket?

Also had a minor heart attack as I took it out of the garage. I found a valve spring retainer on the ground underneath where the car was. I was pretty sure it wasn't from my car (can't see how it would have popped out, and it had some old grease/dirt on it), but I checked all of my pictures just the same! I wonder when and how that got in there? I can't be sure, but it looks to be about the right size to have come from the engine.

Also, the noise that I thought was the water pump is gone, so I'm glad I replaced it. But I do need to adjust the A/C belts, they are squealing something fierce!
 
I assume that you meant that you checked your "after" pictures to insure that each valve had a retainer on it? I think that you would have known by the end of the test ride if they didn't.

I had a bearing noise in the water pump earlier this spring and had it replaced. They can get loud and they can get ugly if they seize up too!

I hope to have mine back this week so I can get a good month of driving in before it goes into storage for the winter.

Yes. It was one of the little half-cone bits. Just a based on the gunk on it, I was pretty sure it wasn't from my head (at least recently!), but it was good to look at the last set of photos before I put the rocker arms on to be sure!
