Why Parents Drink

A father passing by his son's bedroom was
astonished to see that his bed was nicely made and
everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope,
propped up prominently on the pillow that was
addressed to 'Dad..'

With the worst premonition he opened the envelope
with trembling hands and read the letter.

Dear Dad:

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm
writing you. I had to elope with my new
girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with
mom and you. I have been finding real passion with
Karen and she is so nice. But I knew you would not
approve of her because of all her piercings,
tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that
she is much older than I am. But it's not only the
passion...Dad she's pregnant.

Karen said that we will be very happy. She owns a
trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood
for the whole winter.

We share a dream of having many more children.
Karen has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana
doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for
ourselves and trading it with the other people that
live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy. In the
meantime we will pray that science will find a cure
for AIDS so Karen can get better.

She deserves it.

Don't worry Dad. I'm 15 and I know how to take
care of myself. Someday I'm sure that we will be
back to visit so that you can get to know your grandchildren.

Love,
Your Son John.

PS. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at
Tommy's house. I just wanted to remind you that
there are worse things in life than the report card
that's in my center desk drawer.

I love you.

Call me when it's safe to come home

hehehe....He might never get a phone call

Were it not for the mention of piercings and ecstasy...I'd assume that letter is at least 35-40 years old...

Do kids today even get report cards? I mean...what if a teacher singled out a student...for below average work...or worse yet...what if the teacher made an OFFENSIVE comment?

Could result in years of therapy (taxpayer paid)

Nah, she's a good kid...well, she's 36 this May.

My oldest is 34 this year and still lives at home, although she decided to make a career change and is at university in scotland. My eldest boy is 30 and still lives at home and the youngest boy is 24 and still lives at home. They are all still single. I am thinking about moving to a 1 bedroom house and a large garage and 500 mls away and not leaving a forwarding address lol /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Don't know about offensive remarks but low grades?
Then the parents complain and call the principal. My wife is a teacher. Happily some principals have a brain between their ears and he quite politely explained to the parents that "effort" is not enough reason to give top marks. The kid actually has to earn good grades.

It seems that even a number of University students now think effort should be enough.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

Some form of "critical thinking" lessons should be in the curricula of every grade level. I've witnessed neighbors' kids going thru the system, printed "reports" for 'em when their printers fail... it's disheartening to see the low level of performance accepted as "work" from these kids.
