Why is this car not street legal ?

In order for a car to be street legal in the United States, it must first pass crash and emissions certification. If the importer has not gone through this process then the car may only be used for racing and/or experimental or evaluation purposes. If the latter, the car must either be destroyed or removed from US soil within a certain time frame, three years I think. The only exceptions to this are made in relation to cars 25 years old or older, and special interest vehicles (BIG money to have this exemption) such as the Jaguar XJ220. I think I'm right with this information, but in any case it will helpto explain why.
 
They have been unable (or unwilling) to get the K-series motor to comply with emissions regulations. That is also partly why the MGF and MGTF never made it here. Also I think the bumper heights are too low as well. There is a company that will put Acura Integra motors in Elises and certify them but its not cheap.
 
Not cheap but they just scream with the integra motors.. They will slip a R motor in for you..
195 HP and 8400 rpm red line.. And you can build from there! Yummy !
