Wedge Why is the cockpit of my TR8 so warm.

Well let's close it with a good answer.
 
The comment of a/c cars have no lower vents is correct. The non-a/c cars have manual vents in the foot wells. The a/c cars do not. BUT --- if you can actually find the vent doors, they can easily be installed in the same places in the foot wells. I did this in my a/c equipped 80 TR8 DHC and they work great. The best place to find them is in a rusty junker, as I don't think even Rimmers has them.
 
With the FHC 8 I had, I had to wind the window down and stick my arm down to get and breeze. I think the shape of the simple makes ventilation poor to start. I am pulling my foot vents out of my old FHC this week end, I will have to see who wanted them again. I have been up to my ears with a new unit deploying
 
My bad, When I removed the AC I pulled out a 1 3/4 " plug in the firewall. It is wide open and all the air is blowing by the exhaust and right in that hole and right at me!I need a new plug.

DUCT TAPE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least unit you find a plug.

Owning a TR8 DHC and a GT6+, I can tell you that the 8 can get almost as uncomfortable (with the top up) as a GT6+. The trick to a GT6+ is to a) pull up the carpet, b) plug everything, c) spray water at the firewall, d) find the leaks, and e) repeat "b" where you missed spot. Next, pull the transmission cover, insulate the cover, hammer all of the sheet metal straight, and refit the cover with a very good seal and extra screws. It WILL make a huge difference.

Back to the TR7/8 footwell vent doors - a good fabricator could make some extra money if they could copy and sell copies!!!!!
 
It was funny, yesterday before I recalled the gapping hole, my daughter(the one who did the video) and I were on a drive and I remarked how much heat I had,and she said why don't I direct all that heat to her side as she was cold. Sheez,it was 73 outside and sunny.
 
Maybe something from an electrical supply store? You know one of those plugs they use to plug cable holes in an electrical panel.
 
My TR7 coupe has the footwell vents, & I have disconnected the water supply from the heater, as I found it blew hot air at me, for a few minutes, every time I parked for a few minutes. I'm sure this helps.

Another thing is the dash carpet I had made, which coveres all that plastic, under the windscreen, & stops it getting so hot, & radiating heat into your face.

The best thing, however, is my sunroof "thing". Its a double glass thing, pivoted at the front, which pops up at the back. With them open, it sucks a regular gale in through the footwell vents, & out through them. They work best with the windows shut.

I recently had a 300 miles drive, in moderate to heavy rain, in the 7. I don't take it out in the rain that often, & I found I could not get enough air onto the screen to keep it clear. Then I tried the vents open, & the sunroof open. The screen demisted immediately.

With the windows shut virtually no rain came in, except when I had to come to a complete stop in a town.

Faced with a similar problem on my Stag (where the AC lines had been removed), I found a 'temporary' solution that will likely become permanent (unless I reinstall the AC).

I cut circles from some aluminum sheet I had laying around (remains of an electronic project), then marked the hole diameter and drilled for 3 pan head sheet metal screws just inside the circle. Then I put all 3 screws in, removed one and backed off the other two. Ran a small bead of silicone caulk outside the screws, and set the 'plug' into the hole from the inside, with the two screw heads sticking through into the engine compartment. They had enough grip on the hole to let me install the 3rd screw, and tighten them all up.

Not elegant, but very effective.
 
Small English car and V8 engine. My Tiger is literally unbearable -- even with the top down -- if it's into the upper 80s outside. The heat pouring off the engine makes my eyes burn.

My TR8FHC does not have foot well vents as it is an A/C car. The A/C works very well but I rarely use it. I do have a Leonia installed sliding sun roof that is almost always open during warmer weather. However, even with it closed, excessive heat has never been a problem for me. It actually stays fairly cool in the car most of the time. Whenever I want heat, and slide the control lever to the hot side, I get all the heat I can handle. Overall, the heat level in my coupe is very controllable.

On the fan actuation side of things... At just under the halfway mark on the temp gauge, the fans come on at low speed. When the temp gauge sees just over the halfway mark, the fans kick into high speed mode. The fans have only resorted to high speed a few times since I have owned the car. Once when the outside temps reached a cool 107 degrees. The other times have been when the A/C was running.
