Why is painting so expensive?

SilentUnicorn said:
My car is due back from the local high schools auto body shop. I had them fix some minor metal work and paint it. They will be charging me the cost of materials they use (i bought the paint). I don't expect it will be very expensive at all. This may be an option in your area- check with the local high school. I dropped mine off about Christmas time and hope to get it back anytime now. The way i look at it is i also gained free heated storage for the winter.

m

shame on you fro taking advantage of the youngsters

Youngsters learn to paint, you get a painted car! Win-win. I used to know quite a few people that got their engines rebuilt, interiors re-done, brightwork re-chromed, and metal re-sprayed this way. (Not all on the same car tho')

VOC regulations. The small backyard paint guy is going the way of the Dodo, unless they go water. Not yet to the point where they have gone underground, another ten years will tell the tale. Only big shops that can play the insurance game will be left. Do it your self and save big, If you want concourse, you shouldn't be shopping for a bargain paint job, the price is the price.
