Why don't parts stay compatible?

I now have a Lucas points set and a "Made in China" low-tension lead. The hole in the connector of the China low-tension lead is slightly too small to fit over the shoulder of the insulator on the hinge end of the Lucas points. Why doesn't anything just "go right" any more? I can drill it out, I guess.

As if that wasn't enough, the connector is a spade terminal, not a stud and nut fitting. I can install a spade terminal, I guess.

AAARGGH!

Chris, maybe because not enough of us call and raise a big stink when presented with garbage like this.
I always am very vocal in my displeasure with suppliers that sell junk.

Actually Moss wants you to call. They say that they can not possibley check every receipt and even when they reorder from normal suppliers that sometimes get something a bit different. If it is wrong they will pull the entire stock and check receipts from that company till they are happy.

Moss, the 4 letter word in car parts
I will NOT accept anything from china or taiwan on my British cars.
If it has moving parts or you have to plug it in, and it's from china, It WILL fail in about a month.

So where can one get that particular part, "terminal and lead", for the 1275 distributor, with "Made in England" or even "Made in USA" written on it? Both Moss and VB sell the Chinese version.
