Why blip the throttle?

Back in the 60s when I first started driving, I got in the habit of blipping the throttle just as/before I shut the engine off. Any ideas as to what the purpose of this could have been (if there was a purpose)as I assume I picked the habit up from a parent or another, older driver?

I don't "Blip" but know guys that do. When I worked for John Deere there was an effort to inform long time equipment operators of new "Turbo" models not to do this. The turbo gets revved up, the key/engine is shut down, and the oil supply to the turbo has ceased. You could hear these turbos spinning for 1/2 a minute or so, winding down with no oil going through it. Maybe its an attempt to do a last second hot burn to clean out carbon/build up???????

I think it's just a guy thing; boys just like to make noise

My wife can drive a stick as well as any guy I know (and better than most), she pulls up, switches off the key and the engine goes silent.

I have to admit though, I shut down the ///M Rdstrs without any "grandstanding" but I do attempt to clear the Healey's throat before shutting it down.

She's good...

HEY!! Randy

I see they have some of those smart cones over there where you are at. They turn green if you hit them when you pass.
