MGB Why 'B' driving? A question for MGB owners...

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif I had a GT about 15 years ago....nice cars....thinking about another if the right on comes along.

It's not quite that simple, Jack. I love my Bugeye, but when I can't drive it where I want to, it starts being more frustrating that fun. I continue to think about a 1275 swap, but I'm leaning away from it these days. I think it's not the right direction for my Bugeye. So... I'm thinking of other possibilities for the future.

Used to have a thing for early Spitfires as well, but they'd have the same power issues as my Bugeye. So I'm thinking about bigger cars: TR3 and MGB in particular.

Do like the looks of a GT6 as well, though not sure I'd fit very well in one.

Jack - there's that '74 MGB over in Tallahassee....still has the Sabrina's on the bumpers.

Since we're still pounding away at this thread... late last year my Miata's rear-end got smashed into by a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup. I ended up driving my MG off and on for several months and enjoyed every bit of it (especially since it was in the winter). It's about as comfortable a small car as I've had. I like the Miata, but I always feel like I'm sitting on a pile of books or something rather than in the car - the way the MGB is.

One day I'd like to get a halfway decent B-GT with A/C as a daily driver. Practical, comfortable, easy to work on, and a classic. What more could you want.

Amen to the "B" GT with air. My dream car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

MGB-GT's are very nice. My main Rallye Partner used to have a great driver B-GT that we were quite successfull after we were sort of asked to stop competeing in my TR6. After he sold the B-GT to his son we used his classic Mini and did equally well.

I really like MGC-GT's as well but I have always had a soft spot for I-6's. BillSpohn in BC has a pretty nice MGC Roadster he showed me photos of when we exchanged some semi-rough words in the Triumph Forum. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I haven't figured it out yet. But, untill I do, I'll just keep driving it, and polishing it, and driving it some more and maybe, just maybe, in a few years I'll be able to say why I love this little car so much. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif PJ

That sums it up for me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I race Spridgets but they are bit small for me on the street. I have a 67 MGB GT for street, I think for me it's the perfect LBC, roomy, plenty of torque, and most important is the GT will carry the stuff you need for a road trip in your LBC, I often refer to the GT as the SUV of LBCs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Why Hap, it's your truck.

Thanks all for the thoughts. I've got a lot of thinking to do over the winter (and a few Tunebug projects to keep me busy).

My dad has a '76 MGB that my wife fell in love with. I have a '78 Pontiac Trans Am that I restored and take to car shows, cruise-ins, etc. Yes, I was growing up when "Smokey & the Bandit" came out...

So I recently purchased a solid '77 MGB for my wife. Now she has a car of her own to bring to the car shows. I do have to admit that this little car does handle much better than my T/A and it actually is more comfortable to ride in; not to mention that the "B" also gets better gas mileage than my 403 cubic inches!

I love the bandit mobile....One of those cars I have to own before it's too late.

I admit I love the 6.6L T/A's as well. I'm a bit surprised that the RB MG handles better, I've heard older T/A's can be made to handle surprisingly well for their size and wieght.

Add me to T/A fan bunch, I had like three of them growing up. I can remember listening to Steve Miller's "Fly like a eagle" on 8 track while flying in my TA like it was yesterday /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

While not a T/A, my high school hot rod was a '78 Camaro that had a 'warmed up' 355 motivating it. It had pretty tall gears though so it was slow off the line but wicked fast past 30mph. 85mph was 2700rpm and would give more that 22mpg where 65 would return a paltry 14mpg. The thing liked to move. The speedo was 130mph unit and I had the needle bouncing off the peg more than a few times below 130mph. That was also before Northern Colorado became so crowded. Too much traffic for those stunts now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif Good times, but I did give it up for 'slower' cars that handled better.

My mom had a 70 Z28 when I was in highschool...Flame orange with a houndstooth interior, I think it was a 350, but it got moving pretty good when you stepped on it....sure wish I had that car now...I drove it to school whenever my A was under the weather....Or the weather was bad. Later mom got a 78 Camaro, and I finally gave up the LBC daily drivers and bought my 84 Camaro....I'd love to get an Iroc Convert one day(before they get any more expensive)

In High school I went from a 72 Midget as a first car to a 77 Bandit TA as my 2nd. What a jump. I loved them both but there was something cool about being 17 and smoking the tires in all three gears.

Well I was 18 vping but I could smoke em at 80 just by laying on it. Course back then we did not have much for tires, bias belted skinny ones.

Gosh I loved that car. 54 Ford sunliner, channeled 2 inchs, stretched at the firewall 4 inchs. Lincoln export engine, crane cam, pair of 4 barrels, etc.

Olds tail lights, skirts, lakes pipes, nosed and decked, 104 lovers in the hood. Artic white with red leather and carpet and white pipeing.

Clocked flying mile at 140.1 with top down and hubcaps on and the young lady who is now my wife of 47 years in the car.

Oh the days, good memories.

Oh yea cops did not have radios and were running Chev 6 cyl. YheeHaww. Run what ya brung. Catch me if you can.

Dam, it is a wonder we are all still alive.

Oh me, and I gave my 18 year old granddaughter a BMW, what was I think of.
