Just got here for a week of briefings - staying at the Fairfield Inn Marriot out by the airport...anybody nearby?

Helloo..helloo...hellooooo...
anybody there..there...there!!!!

Tony..too bad it's a 4 hour drive I'd love to have a cold one with ya!!

Yep - would'a been nice! Gonna go get a steak tonight.

Tony...you go all the way down to the Hereford House for steak last night or just settle for something there by the airport???....any BCFers round there ever touch up with you...?

Your more than invited to come by Fremont but for a 4 hour drive north the best I'd have to offer in a restaurant out here is a 2 inch pork chop....but they're as good as that corn bred beef!!!!!!!!!

There's a Hereford House in Zona Rosa, the next exit down from the airport.

Wow..I'm outa touch....last I remember only Hereford was down at the old stock yards...when I was a kid my folks would take the family there and you would have to walk through all the cattle yards from the parking lot to the restaurant...I'm sure the ambience by the airport is not as............smelly!!!

I remember going to a restaurant down by the stockyards called The Golden Ox - its still there....I thought the original Hereford House was downtown by the old train depot?

shessshhh...you're right....it was the OX....it's h-ll getting old...er!!

Don't you know it!

No briefings tomorrow so I'm gonna go over & try to take a tour of the Harley Davidson factory.

I should probably quit while I'm ahead...told you I never make it down anymore even still with some family there....but isn't the HD factory in the old Fairfax plant...prior General Motors... prior WWII Bomber plant?

Now I'll show some age....bought my 1st and only HOG brand new in 1975 a SuperGlide from a garage converetd HD Sales store on 18th and Central Ave in KCK....Blue with the AMF LOGO...that I quickly had repainted.... that tour would be fun...

I don't know - but will know before the day's over!

Harley Davidson factory is a relatively new, purpose-built, robotic operation...tour lasted about hour & a half - good tour.

Tony....yea not where I thought...new place by airport...I visited the HD website....pretty slick but kinda leaves the old hand built era in the dust!!! funny thing is when AMF
took them over supposedly the quality went out the door because of their production line mentalitly...so they bought em back...what kind of test/QA process existed at
the end of all the robotics???

Oh man, quality control was everywhere...each station had a computer checking torques & the machines couldn't go any tighter than preset...I saw a gas tank that had been marked with "quality" to redo...I couldn't find the bad place even though somebody had marked it - that speck would've gotten by any owner ....I saw a couple of frames that had been painted & were back for stripping because the paint wasn't good enough...& a few items where the robots' welds were being redone by humans.

...inspectors pull bikes off the assembly line at random, take them for a 25 mile ride & then disassemble them for inspection...if they find anything wrong with it, they put it in the employee cafeteria & the team that built it has to inspect it & make corrections.

...tour guide said only certain people can work in paint as their diet is restricted to items that don't contain certain oils (peanuts, some meats, etc) as, even through their breath, the oils can affect the paint.

...& there's one line of bikes where each bike is built by only 1 guy - & only 9 people per shift work building that particular bike.

I was impressed with their quality control.

I know a guy that works in the paint dept at the Toyota plant and among other things, he's not allowed to wear deodorant, ever. apparently it can cause fisheye in the paint

Yep, they mentioned that also - & perfume for the female workers & aftershave for the males.
