Just curious what everyone's experience is with these companies and which they prefer. I've only dealt with moss to date, but VB seems to have a very complete catalog and I keep them in mind...anything that's better from one or the other?

in my humble experiences (with both). moss is fast fast fast with shipping. Vicky gets it here but seems to take a bit longer. granted NJ is a bit closer to me than Kansas. the stuff seems about the same so i tend to go with the cheaper on the item i wish to own. on a budget ya know.

I really like The B-Hive. Better pricing and exceptional service

I've used all three of the ones mentioned and am very happy with all three

I have always used The Little British Car Company. Fast shipping and always less expensive than Moss etc. Very nice people and you can sign up for their newsletter.

I order from Victoria British and Moss. Usually when one doesn’t have something I need the other will.

This is just me speaking - but being the bleed a nickel Scotsmen /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif that I am – I normally deal with Little British Car Co., when I need Moss stuff as they pass-along a fairly nice discount to the customer and I don’t have to pay California taxes. Of course I have to be careful as my miserly ways can back fire sometimes dealing with out of state vendors. While they might save me state taxes, I could lose with shipping costs.

The one thing I must admit is that I really like the most about Moss, is that whenever I’ve dealt directly with them (over the phone or at a show & shine) - I always felt like I was dealing with fellow enthusiasts. They always seem to have ideas for improving the quality, scope and size of their product line for us weekend wrench turners.

Moss also has a rather active R&D section – ie the new MGB Supercharger kits and the upcoming Fuel Injection system for later MGB’s with the Zenith Stromberg single carb setups. Oh yeah they have already got the Fuel Injection kit emissions certified with CARB so it'll be smog legal for any state. If Victoria British has something comparable going on – their keeping it a deep dark secret.

Also, check out Brit-tek and Proper MG...both great outfits. I bought my Weber carb from Brit-tek, and instructions were included written by the owner that helped a lot.

I havent dealt with VB in a long time, but I never had any problems with parts or service then. We generally use Moss now, if only because I can get both Miata and MGB widgets from them with the same phone call. And I've generally been very impressed with Moss' customer service. We'd ordered an exhaust hanger kit from them, and it was missing parts. We called and they arrived free of charge the next day.

I pretty much usually always us VB because it is a 15 minute drive from my house. So thats real nice, but if i was going to order anything that needed to be the best quality i would order from Moss or The Roadster Factory.

I find that Moss is almost overnight with parts order, VB...can be up to a week... unexcusable in this 24/7 world of ours today... MOSS gets my vote enthusiastically... and my business!!!

good info, thanks guys. I'm in the process of placing an order with VB right now since they have some things I need that Moss doesn't carry. I'll see how they work out, but I was very happy with the service from Moss. Just was curious about everyone's experiences....
Thanks,
Rob

Rob, I've found that it can be a toss up between the two. I'm a VB dealer, so I get a price break there, but there are still items I order from Moss or other sources. For instance, performance stuff usually comes from Winners Circle, APT, or Seven Enterprises. Sometimes the quality will be higher, or of a name brand from one supplier.
Until you get some experience in dealing with these people, it's kind of a crapshoot.
Having said that, I will say that W/C, Seven, Moss, and APT are all staffed with car people, whereas VB has "order takers" on the phone.

I find that Moss deliveries, if the part is in stock, are great. I do recall getting a strange package in the mail once, it was the spare tire hold down for the MGA I had sold several months previous.

My main problems with Moss are:

Would it break them to put INSTRUCTIONS in upholstery kits? They put parts in kits and duplicate then in another. I now have two dash covers for the B, one from the dash rail, and one from the interior kit, after I went to an upholstery shop to get one because I was putting the windshield on and they don't sell it separate! I KNOW I paid for this at least 3 times!

Same with the top, they might consider making a buck SELLING instructions for installing the top. Every time you call the tech line they're not there.

Second: The prices are going up because the Dollar / Pound is unfavorable. Hard as I look I can't find the city of "Taiwan" on the UK map. I would guess 75% of the "British" parts are from the "east". So why are the parts going up?

Puzzles or not they're the best game in town!
