Like Tom, I did "way back when" -- as did my dad. That was pretty much the case until about 1978, when I got my first "genuine winter beater" car to keep the Triumphs out of the salt.
I still do that to this day, although I drive the current '62 Herald as often as the collector insurance will allow. First four years I had it, I drove it as much as possible, when it had "regular" insurance. For about seven months after my old Ford Explorer died, it was my ONLY car!
All things considered, I think I'd still rather be driving the Herald daily....
