I'm planning on having my coves painted Old English White (ICI paint code 2379) but is that all I need to tell the paint & body shop or is there a resource for the actual paint I should send them to? Thanks!

There is more than one OEW, do a advanced search in the archives. There is a muddy OEW and one that is supposedly the same as Ford Wimbledon White. I don't know which is more correct but I went with the Wimbledon White and it looks nice on the hardtop.

Andy.

My paint & body shop's supplier is having a hard time coming up with the modern equivalent to ICI 2379 Old English White. Has anyone painted their car OEW and can advise what paint mfr offers an equivalent?

Here are some possibilities:
Ivory White
PPG/Ditzler 8177
Dupont Lucite 8207L
Dupont Dulux 97111

Old English White #1
Dupont Dulux 83445

Maybe useful, maybe not: Rinshed-Mason paint equivalent to BMC code from an old factory Tech Service Bulletin
R-M Permax 2U5599R
R-M Lacquer U9938 (good luck finding these).

All of the above are BMC code WT3.

To the best of my knowledge, Old English White and Ivory White are the same color. For earlier cars, the name of the color was Old English White. For BJ8s, it is Ivory White.

Sherwin Williams has old english white. Used the
Two years ago and the color looks spot on. They
Use the code wt3 as well and offer it in enamel and
Urethanes.

My paint shop has sprayed a sample for me to approve tomorrow so I think I'm good. Thanks for everyone's help! Stay tuned for fresh pics of my duo-tone BJ7 within the week.

Picking up my car tomorrow at 4 PM. Can't wait to see the new two-tone! Will post pics tomorrow afternoon.

What paint formula did you decide to go with? I would be interested in the details if you can get it from your painter. I don't mean the paint code, but the actual mixing formula. I'm assuming your paint is Ivory White or Old English White.

Thanks,

Steve, I'll ask him tomorrow. I don't know what it's called, just that he showed me a large piece of metal with the color on it and it looked good and was supposedly a close match to OEW so I gave him the green light.

Steve, here's the label on the paint they used:

I left my cameras in Florida by mistake so am relying on my iPhone so these photos really don't capture the warmth and creaminess of the OEW. They didn't do a concours job but for a high-level driver it's pretty decent. I think the duotone is very attractive on Big Healeys.
