Bike Shop, There are quite a variety of bicycle brake cables in varying quality = $ that will work.
 
Mine's from the local bicycle shop -- I took them the old one and they made up a new one for me.
 
I agree, go to the custom bike shop. They are nuts just like us and want good quality on their 2 wheel frames. The shop by me has bikes that are $8,000 + and have really good quality cable on them. I guess its, "Safety Fast" for them to.
 
Yup! You guys all beat me to it. I haven't purchased an "official" throttle cable in decades.

I put a K-mart bicycle brake cable in my '69 in 1982 and it still works fine.

Well, there is a concensus here. I will go to the bike shop. The replacement cable I got is this one. But it's "sticky". It wants to stick in position so I have to push to get it to move. it's not smooth at all. I used graphite lube at install. I used more when symptoms started. I gave up and used lighter return springs. I used oil. I used grease. I use bike shop cable now.
 
As everyone else has already said, bike shop BUT get one that has Teflon lining in it. Costs a little more than the standard cable but requires no lube and is smooth.

We ain't just a bunch o' pretty faces, y'know. :wink:

Go with the Teflon liner'd type and put the stronger return springs back on.
