Listenin' to an '80's radio station; "Let's Go Crazy" comes on... "Let's go crazy, let's get nuts..."

GOR! What a depressin' song! "...get through this thing called life..." As IF death were a *GOAL*!!

Gotta be Prince. BAH!

Bring on some Plant, Winwood or Palmer!

geez.

MUCH better now: Sting. Police days. "Don't Stand."

"You Just Keep Me Hangin' On" cover now, Really a great remake. Girl group, brane-fade and can't remember who they are. Same ones who did the "Venus" cover? A bit "disco" but not bad, AFAIC.

I've got the Sirius and I try to listen to the classic - for me anyway. They play good stuff from late 60's to late 70's on this one station. I love it. Zep doors who rush stones and many of the obscure things you don't hear on terrestrial radio.

I have all that on vinyl, Vince. I'm tryin' to broaden my musical horizons. The '80's were a musical wasteland for me... it (popular music) has always been cyclic, I know. A few of the '80's pop groups/artists were good but for the most part it was BORING to me.

Is there a Sirius freq playin' Zappa, Prine, Captain Beefheart, Tranquility, Pat Dailey, Jaggerz, Moby Grape, Buffett, Unrested Soul, Kinky Friedman?!?!

THAT I could be interested in! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

YUP! That's it.

Thanks, Steve. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

I prefer 1st wave on sirius though I wish there was more of a very late 80's through just past the middle of the 90's alternitive channel when there was the last death throw of good music.

The station I was describing is the one the plays all that stuff. Some DJ's have their own prefs. but you will get on that loves playing Zappa.... It's refreshing to hear something other than Joe's garage like Apostrophe. Don't get me wrong but terrestrial can play JG. Also where else can you hear the full version of Inna gadda da vida. I also rarely hear the same song twice.
A station up here just went back to playing music after about a year of playing talk. Mind you this is quite the popular station. Because of that, they are playing the same old stuff they played before. How many times can you hear "Free falling" by TP or "Under the Bridge" by the RHCP. Hey I like both those bands but jeese their library is a bit larger than those 2 songs.

You may have to start that station yourself, Doc. I'd be happy to proffer my services at evening DJ.

I was in high school and college during that time, and thought the same thing for a while. But there's loads of great stuff coming out every week-my CD collection has far outgrown my storage space. You won't hear much of this on the radio, sadly.

What's wrong Doc. ya get spoiled on WDVE?
I had XM for a while, but I really diden't listen to it enough to varify the cost.
I may re-activate it here sometime, but I'll just rely on myLPs, CDs and MP3s.
All kinds of oddball stuff there.
Arlo Guthrie (and some Woodie), Johnny Rivers, John Prine, Pete Seeger, Bobby Bare, Beatles, Cream, Blind Faith, John Mayhall, Jethro Tull, Johnny Horton, Willie Nelson, John Denver, Eric Clapton, Edgar Winter, Stones, etc, etc....
I have a pretty diverse collection, but almost ZERO 80s. I was there. I don't wanna go back. I'll just pick Stevie Ray Vaughn outta there and listen to him.

Gawd Benny. Little Jimmy Roach....

Your 'collection' of various songs and storage media reflect what I own. As for '80's stuff, I'll admit to later "YES" and SRV!!! And a couple others of slight consequence: for some perverse reason I like "Simply Red" and I admit to owning a Wham album, strictly for the tune "I'm Never Gonna Dance Again"... played on a "comp" just ahead of Linda Ronstadt's Nelson Riddle accompaniment of "For Sentimental Reasons".

Diverse? I prefer "eclectic". /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Son Paul, who's 26 now, would come home during his late teen years and say, "Dad - I heard this great song today..." and would say/sing the words to me.

I'd say, "Yep, that's 'White Room' by Cream" (or whatever the song happened to be). And then I'd say, with shameless hubris, "MY generation. And, by the way, you're WELCOME!"

Still ticks him off when I do that! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Great thread.

I have a subscription to Rhapsody that I stream to my Sonos - access to pretty much every song ever recorded, on demand. It's awesome.

How about a little Chuck Berry, Everly Brothers, Big Bopper, & Buddy Holley and the Crickets?

Am I showing my age?

Hey.....you guys stole my musical taste! Give it back!
(OK....I don't actually own a Wham album)

By the way, my fav 80s disco singer is Yvonne Elliman (though she is also know for singing in JC Superstar and her work with Clapton).

Right now, for some reason, I am on an all-girl kick in my iPod: Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Etta James (big song: "At Last"...used in some, recent Jaguar commercials), Sarah McLachlan, , Norah Jones, Charlotte Church, Emmy Lou Harris, Sheryl Crow, Karan Casey (Irish stuff), Paula Cole.
OK, I admit it: I like girls.

Since it's top down weather, I have a"driving CD" in the Miata that's mostly Beach Boys (Beach Men at this point) plus "Baba OReilly" &"Won't Get Fooled Again" (Who), "Ride My Seesaw" (Moodys), "Jump"(Van Halen), "Who Says You Can't Go Home" (the Bon Jovi/Nettles version).....stuff like that. The last two are a reflection of my New Jersey sensibilities.

Hmmm... LBC's, literature, music... EGAD! WE'RE CLONES!!!
