I am trying to find out about the three 1981 Datsun 210's that are at the Pull A Part yard in knoxville. Its too far for me to drive to see if they are five speeds.

Hi Ray
On rows 104,109 and 110 there are three Datsun 210's. They are listed as 1981's. They might be a source for five speeds for a Rivergate conversion. It is the Pull A Part yard at 5800 Rutledge Pike.

Thanks
Anthony

I'm picking up the newly media blasted Whitephrog from Strip Technologies tomorrow. They are located on Old Rutledge Pike a few block from Pull-A-Part. If I don't get to take a look then I will later is the week.

Thats cool. You are taking pictures during the rebirth of whitephrog I hope. The pictures from the accident are still painfull to look at. Let me know when you find out what the cars have. The only one in the Nashville lot is an automatic. These transmissions are getting harder to find and you just can't beat the price at Pull A Part.

I keep watching the pull apart in louisville, but nothing too interesting has come through yet.

I have a friend in Franklin looking for a Bugeye. Let me know if you hear of anything available in Middle Tennessee.

Thats great. Looks like Charlie is interested in finding one too. Let me know what you find. I keep a daily eye on the local Craigs list and if I find anything on Bug Eyes I'll let you know. I also check the local Pull A Part. There is an 80 model MGB that is there but it would be way to much to replace from a body standpoint. No floors and the top has been gone for years and the interior is trash. The rockers are almost gone.

Way too soggy in East Tennessee to go junk yard exploring today. Tomorrow's weather forecast looks more promising.

Transmissions were already removed from two of the 210s. The third was a front wheel drive. They have a Datsun 310 with a four speed that shifted smoothly but that probably no help. Sorry. Neat to explore that place though.

I have been watching a 210 transmission on ebay. With four hours to go the bidding is up to $546. I am glad I found the one I did for a much less amount. Maybe I will go around to junk yards and see how many of these I can find. Better than money in the bank.

Hi

what year have these transmissions ?
are they all 5 speeds ? or are some 4 speeds ?

Does it say somewhere on the car the year model ?

I will ask my friend to look for them , he is a Pic-a-part guy but not looking for Datsuns

Anthony -

You have a PM.

Thank you for taking a look. These things are getting harder and harder to find. When you do find them the price is prohibitive. Thats the reason for checking where you did. They only charge about fifty dollars for a five speed. The price is that low because you have to take it out. I'll continue to search but I am also looking at alternatives based on size. I would like to get the accual dimensions of the original rib case. I have found that for what the going rate for the Datsun gearbox is a new Tremic five speed can be purchased. The bell housing to center of shifter on the Tremic is only 26 inches. If I remember correctly that is close to what the ribcase is. There is one other thing that I have found out that there was a automatic transmission that the Datsun 210 had in it during the years that Rivergate requires. This automatic was used in five models of the Datsun during those years. All five of the cars that used this automatic were also available with five speeds. I would think that any of these five speeds should work. If they would that would make the search easier and there should be a lot more of them in existance.

Thanks Again for checking
Anthony

What are the Datsun 5 speed transmissions going for?
I bought a '78 B210 w/a 5 speed that I was planning on
putting in our other B210 w/a 4 speed.If I could get
enough,I'd be tempted to sell the 5 speed.

I've seen them anywhere from $350 - $650 on eBay, less in local purchases. If it's in good shape, eBay seems to be a good place to get top dollar for them.
