Was just gabbing w/friends the other day and realized just
about everyone I know has killed or lost a cell phone.
It must be the same in BCF land.

For me, well. let's see: Janmari dumped hers in the toilet as did our investment manager Pedro. Ramon lost his somewhere. Jan went swimming with hers and killed it. I left one on a construction project and dropped another. Wendy killed two in the washing machine. Cellphones seem to have short lives.

How did other BCFers kill off or lose a cell phone?

I don't have these problems...no cell phone.

Sisters dog ate mine when I was visiting home. Still not sure how he got it but it must of been mighty tastey as there wasn't much left

Dale, with all the boating you do, you've never dropped one in the drink?? I have! (2)
My main problem seems to be keeping them dry! No matter how much I waterboard them they just don't talk!!

If you ever get your cell phone wet, place it in a bowl of uncooked rice, completely covered and with an air tight lid (take the battery out immediately too!). Leave in in there for several days. There is a good chance (not a guarantee) it will work after that. The rice will draw out and absorb the water.

We have killed a few phones or pagers and lost one long enough to have replaced it.
I’ve carried a pager for about twenty years, but only drowned one in the toilet. I also took one canoeing and found that it could not swim. :cryin:

My wife and son teamed up to wash his. He did not take it out of his pocket and she did not check jeans before putting them in the wash. It came out clean but did not function as good as it did dirty.

My wife’s phone was misplaced in the van for so long we decided that it had fallen out and replaced it. It was later found during a detailing session.

If I loose or misplace my iPhone, all I have to do is log onto my "MobleMe" account and select the "find phone" option and it will locate my phone on a Google Map. I can also sent the phone a command to lock it and display a message (for example, "I'm a lost phone, if found, please call XXX-XXX-XXXX). If you go to the area where the map says the phone is (get in the general area), you can have a family member send a message to your phone to cause it to make noise so you can hear it and further locate your lost iPhone.

Can't wait for them to be available on verizon

I will say that the AT&T coverage has not impressed me. If they open it up to other carriers, I will be seriously looking at Verizon! Although, this week I have been out in the middle of the Arizona desert near Yuma, and I actually have coverage with AT&T out in the middle of nowhere! There must be a tower on a high mountain somewhere within line of sight from my work location. I was surprised to have coverage there. Back home, the coverage is not a good as it was when I had Sprint So, while I love the phone, I'm not thrilled with the AT&T coverage.

I have a cell phone and a set of rental car keys in the bottom of the coooling tower at a TVA Power plant in TN.
I should be able to retreive them this NOV. :wall:

Bas, it depends where you are. Folks I know around me that aren't on AT&T have lousy coverage. T-Mobile is the worst, AT&T is the best. If you're in a metro area that might be different but I know a couple of people that switched to Verizon and found the service to be miserably bad...just depends.

As to the original question - never damaged one, never lost one.

All my phone lines forward directly to my cellphone. I don't find it bothersome at all, if I don't want to talk to someone I just hit the red disconnect button and let voicemail take care of it, and in the car it gets ignored completely without exception. 99% of my business is conducted via email anyway so it's no problem at all.

Agreed. But where I live (which is of the most importance to me), my coverage is not as good as when I had Sprint. My daughter-in-law has Verizon and her coverage is great in our area. When I'm in town (Albuquerque) my AT&T coverage is generally good, but when I drive home, as soon as I get out of the city on the way to Edgewood, my coverage starts to get spotty, with lots of dead zones. By the time I get to my house, I have zero coverage. I'm hoping they will improving my area, but if they don't I will change to Verizon as soon as possible.

I went for a swim with mine recently. Took the battery out, and put it in a toaster oven set on the lowest setting possible for an hour or two. It is still working two months later.

My pager fell off of my belt when mowing the lawn. In order to exchange it for a replacement Metrocall wanted all of the pieces. There were too many to count.

The one I lost on a construction site was kinda funny( not at the time)

I realized as I got into my car I had left my phone behind.
So I dialed my own number hoping someone in the crew would pick it up and answer it. They did, I explained it was my phone and where were they standing on the project and I'd come back and get it. $5.00 reward as well. The guy said it was his phone and hung up on me. I called back, he answered and hung up again.

I cancelled the service immediately but it then became stolen property and the cops got involved; we had to hire a para legal
for a day............2 days time wasted and the idiot never got to make a call and was out $5.00.

such is life.

Never lost or broken a phone, iPod/mp3 player, or other portable device. I did lose my phone cover, though. I used to keep the phone in the carrier (had a belt clip on it) to keep the screen from getting scratched up, but I was walking up Lincoln Av. and was expecting a call. I couldn't easily hear the ringer (phone was in my bag) so I put it in my pocket on vibrate (stop giggling at the back!). Anyway, I was shooting this bad boy (among others) and in pulling my camera out of my bag managed to dump the cover. This wouldn't be so funny except I walked back past that sign and picked it up, only to dump it again. Then I backtracked and picked it up. I dropped and retrieved it four or five times in under an hour before losing it for good.

How'd you dial if you left your cell phone behind? Or did you have onea those fancy wired in car phones too?

Walked into the construction trailer and used their phone.

We all did a good laugh ----some weeks later.
