Who drove their Triumph today??

Drive mine everyday. The TR8 anyway...

Now about these potholes that you keep hitting Dale... there is a difference between a sports car and a Jeep. One is built to take potholes and go off road... the other is not. Please, start trying to dodge those potholes if at all possible. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

What impresses me is that Amos had a backup headlight system. Makes me wonder what other systems are replicated on Amos (and what his curb weight is).

Drove about 15 miles tonight taking son to Scouts & back. Just got the fuel tank back in after flushing and coating with POR-15 gas tank treatment. So far so good...

Its just after 8 PM here in Queensland Oz, & I'm sitting here, in just a pair of shorts, thinking about turning the aircon back on.

Today I drove both the 7, & the 8.
I've had the ZF auto [4HP22, from a v8 BMW] rebuilt, & its good news. Its been slipping for a while, & we were worried it was not up to the 8s 280 BHP 4.6L range rover engine.

The specialist says it had had a cheep "FOR SALE" type rebuild, & will now handle our power for years.

He's a drag racing gearbox builder, & wanted to drive with me to optomize the box for my driving. I drove up in the 7, we had our test runs, he declared me the oldest hoon he knows, & I drove the 8 home, going back for the 7.

Wow. I'd forgotten just how hard a 1 ton TR8, with 280 BHP goes. Blasting passed slow cars, on our back country roads is totally addictive.

The fact that I'm now $3,300 poorer is something I must keep to myself.

Phil.

Killing me cause the weather has been holding rather
well. Clear, brisk...gets to the high 60's to low
70's and can't drive the car cause of the head gasket
damage.

Haven't seemed to find the time to begin the breakdown.
Think I'm just dragging my feet just a bit because
of....well... maybe a bit of fear. Once I tear into
her, I know I'm committed. Anticipate photos of
everything I do... (I say this now)... to try to share
with everybody. This will be a big endeavor for my
undertaking and hope that it will not take me to places
I'm sorry I went.

Happy for Dale and others driving. Do feel that
tinge of jealously...or maybe envoy is more appropriate.

Cleaning the garage some in anticipation of the dreaded
breakdown. Busy with my work right now as well.

Drive them cars. I really can take it!

Hey Julian-
Puerto Rico is a land of potholes.

Yes, I installed emergency driving lights, non-fused.
And a real good thing i did!!

I went thru three mechanical fuel pumps in under 200
miles of driving. Therefore I installed a hard wired,
electric fuel pump with precut fuel lines and fittings
in the trunk. I also carry two spare mechanical fuel
pumps in the trunk. As well as a spare water pump.

I installed three ememgency hood latch opener devices.

You're just like engineers when they wear suspenders and a belt at the same time.

Of course I'm a computer guy. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Once burned-twice shy!

Now if Tony would get my fuel tank level sender
delivered to me, I could get my gauges functional
and the stink of gas fumes out of my car.

Tanks' gaskets coming with Tony's sending unit.

Because "Earl" is sitting on stands in the garage, I was unable to drive him today ....... does sitting in him while making motor noises with my lips count?????????

That works for me during the hibernation period.........

Sure DOES count!!

I've spent tons more hours sitting in my TR on jack
stands than I have sitting in my car driving.
Vroom! Vroom!!

BTW Julian! Why do you think 70%+ of the vehicles
on the roads here in Puerto Rico are Jeepish things?
Here's a local Spanish word for you to learn.

craters pronounced CRAH ters.

When your government is broke- your streets develop
many wheel busting craters. Last night one of my head
lamps actually fractured from the impact. Yanked the
wires off the other.

d

I'll bet that your tires and new suspension love those wonderful potholes,..... excuse me CRAH Ters.

Well I have no Triumph to drive (Stag is gone, Herald non-op) so poor little Riley Elf has to do the job. 27 degrees with 4" of snow for the drive to work this morning. Front wheel drive worked nice, but I can't say I'm impressed with the anemic New Zealand recirculating heater. The defroster ended up being a shop towel.
Should I buy a Spitfire?

Well now Paul,

I gotta tell ya the honest truth. PDO Pedro's bucket
of broken car parts Crypty TR6 would bottom out with
great noises and spine jarring crunches when crossing
neighborhood speed bumps at 2 mph or less.

I talked this non-mechanic old guy into ripping out DPO
Pedro's failed suspension and installing new everything
front and rear suspension. It took the old dude more than
two solid months to rebuild the TR's suspension.

Now, Amos might bust a headlamp or throw a wire connector
when challenged by our world class CRAH ters but he sure as
heck does NOT bottom out or cause injury to spines.
A smoother ride than the Grey Ghost actually.

The old dude did a decent job for knowing next to nuthin'
about wrenchin' !

But BLARGH!!!!!!!!!! Third day of rain with more called
for. 7 to 9 foot seas with 20 mph winds. No Amos, no Gatos
today. And buddy is it ever cold- 74 degrees this morning.

d

There are at least 4 inches of white fluffy snow sitting outside my garage now, so it will be 5 months at least before I site behind the wheel of a moving Triumph again.

Hey at least you can sit outside and pretend, right now I have cold, rain mixed with hail, lightning, thunder, and the car is outside under its cover. No way I going out there to sit in it.

Uh, Yisrael? Not to get too personal or anything but with
THAT weather falling on your head and given the weather
history in your neck of the woods, uh like, is your next door
neighbor, maybe building a LARGE, long, wooden structure with
high sides and a wide ramp leading inside of it? Do you see
any strange pairs of animals passing by your house?

just wondering, that's all.

Gotta watch out for those Bugeye Sprites trying to sneak aboard, too.
