White Deer

I saw one on Rt. 206 in Andover, NJ last week.

I assume it was an albino (it was young and with several "regular" deer)
 
brooklands, ive seen two in my life, one while leaving work at westchester county airport 1994, the other on my property in handcock n.y. 1976.
 
Far out! Though I've never seen a white deer, there's a park in downtown DC (Franklin Park, near 14th and K Street) that for years had a huge number of albino squirrels, complete with snowy white fur and pink eyes. I worked near the park for fifteen years, and used to see several of them every time I walked through, for the first ten years at least. However, around the ten year mark, a nesting pair of hawks set up shop in a church steeple nearby and within a year or so, the albinos were gone, and I never saw them again. I guess they were an easy mark!

mad river, i dont know about other parts of the country but here in ct. we have alot of solid jet black squirrels, i had to send one to a fellow taxidermist friend in idaho because he just didnt believe me. :yesnod:

Hi Dave,

Shirley and I vacationed in that area a few years ago. The locals seemed to be willing to talk about them. The only ones we saw however were fenced in. So we saw them but not in the wild.

If you want to find and photo them it might be good to contact as many leads as you can to find good information as to the location(s). And to find a guide if possible.

But we did almost hit a black bear with our TR6 while we were up there.

And if you do go there I can point you to a nice restaurant not too far south of that area. You can dine on a deck overlooking a lake and about 50 feet from the deck there are two very tall pine trees with eagle nests, so you might even see eagles for a side show while you eat!

And there many beautiful waterfalls just west of there in Wisconsin and the UP near the Porkies!
 
I have not seen one, but I heard a story of some unknowing hunter trying to check a billygoat in thinking it was an albino deer.

However, in my experience, hunting tales do not always stick to the truth.
 
I thought Black squirrels were unique to the area around Stanford University but there was one in our yard a few weeks ago. We have not had any of any color in the fifteen years on this house.

While in Princeton University, I once noticed a lot of black squirrels running around within the school compound. First time I ever saw them. I assume they were brought in from another area. PJ
 
Those are some very pretty deer. Here in okie land all the animals are brown.
 
I have to catch a pic of the ones that run around up here. There is a group of six that hang out in a farmers field right down the road. I'm suprised Ben didnt chime in.
