Whistling sound

Took the TR6 out for a drive today, all went well after about two hours of cruising and some shopping (the wife was with me). Started it up to head home and ended up with a strange "whistling" sound coming somewhere out of the front of the engine. It wouldn't go away. The noise was quite audible, even my wife could hear it. It would rise and fall with acceleration. No vacumn leaks, seemed to be coming from the water pump. Stayed there for 20 minutes, seemed to go away, now I feel a slight vibration in the throttle pedal. Parked it in it's bedroom and am hesitant to run again (don't have time to tinker right now). Any clues??

The rise and fall with acceleration tells me it is probablly an engine driven component. My guess would be water pump or alternator bearings. You should be able to isolate it with the car at idle if its as loud as you say. Good luck!

Thanks guys, I'll check it out tomorrow..

Bill,
I've heard of this before...you take the wife shopping and she cleverly diverts your attention from what she bought. It was probably her making the whistling noise as the engine revved...who knows, she probably learned this trick from Oprah, I dunno (if she would never watch Oprah then I apologize). Next time you fire up the TR to check this out make sure she is nowhere close, so you don't get fooled again!

Bill, remeber your water pump is still a suspect too. I'd say probably a bigger one than your alternator since thats new.
