AARRRHHHHGGGFFFF,

that felt sorta good.
10am
my old washing machine has been leaking away for a bit, put
off replacing it till today. I go up to the appliance store because i dont want to wait for one, arrange with a bud with a truck for a ride, all goes off as planned. Read the instruction book and install the washer. Installation consists of removing some drum locks and travel hardware, No biggie. I only run cold water to my washer, and plug off the hot side. With a big smile of glee and A Large pile of laundry to do i plug in the unit and get ready to run it once empty (per instructions) All the little liteys lit up and things look good..
1130am
............NOTHING HAPPENS.... i fiddle about with it for a while, run the trouble shooting list....still Nothing!! i try the customer service line- no dice -closed till monday. I call the gent i bought it from,,,,,no joy....i mention that i only have it plumbed for cold water...guess what..that has to be the problem he says. Ok i will plumb in the hot. I dont have any copper tee's.

3pm
run to the hardware store and buy a bag of tee's..(30 minute round trip) 15 minutes to plumb it in. the ...(insert colorful phrases) still doesnt work.
415pm
call neighbor over we both fuss with it ...nothing..gotta be something stupid we say. carry the old washer back in. and start laundry.

day wasted

does any one out there have any idea of why possible a front loader might not want to cycle??

the door is closed, the water is on.

Mark - are you saying you turn it on and *absolutely* nothing happens? Nothing lights up? Water valves don't open?

Or are the "lights" on but there's no mechanical action?

Tom

Tom,
it lites up ok and the switches associated with lites appear to be doing what they are supposed to do......but when i hit the start button NADA, nothing , ZILCHO. no water valves start feeding water.

Mark- it *really* sounds like a mechanical problem. I'm betting the door interlock "thinks" the door isn't fully closed.

If you happen to have one of the Whirlpool Duet series, GHW9150, there are a *lot* of reports of doorlock interface (and IC board) problems. And to make those owners really feel even better, the washer is known to build up incredible amounts of mold inside the door, so clothes begin to smell bad after the first couple of washes.

Some folks get it to turn on by repeatedly pounding a fist on the door after it's closed.

But you *may* want to turn it into an aquarium. Hope you have a money back guarantee. If you still can't get it to work this weekend, buy lots of deodorant.

oh joy, maybe my model is better,,, Whirlpool LHW0050PQ Front Load Washer.

i would tend to believe that it is something silly like the door switch. The establishment where i bought it will take it back or replace it, what ever i want. I spoke with them this afternoon. it is one good thing about dealing with an appliance store as opposed to a box store.

Did you HOLD the start button on for a few seconds. I have to do that with my washer.

Whirlpool, eh? Is that a division of "We sting who use"? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I had bought a Whilpool washer some time back {I
can`t/don`t want to remember the model number}. It too was one of those digital jobs. After a short {very short} time of ownership I grew to absolutely hate the [censored] thing. The last time it went bazerk on us I dicided to purchase another machine. This time I opted for a model with the twist knobs {mechanical}, and I`v been a happy camper every sence. It`s going on two years and still going strong. Where as the digital washer lasted just long enough for the warrenty to expire. In fact, it never did run completely right and it required numerous repair calls and parts all during it`s short lived life.
My advice is get on the net and read the washer repair forums you will see that not only whirlpool but other digital washer manufacturers have significant problems as well.

Take my advice and get a simple mechanical washer. It might not make the wifey happy but it sure will save you from a lot of agrivation in the end.
One bennefit is that the mechanical knob washers are a bunch cheaper too!

HooBoi. My sympathies.

When this old Whirlpool konks out, we're headed to the creek with th' soap and a washboard. Don' want no digital thingus runnin' my clothes washing chore...
