This coming weekend, I'll be replacing the entire braking system, front & rear.
Got calipers from O'Reillys and major kit from Brittek.
Anything else I need to replace/check while all this stuff is off, so I can order before the weekend gets here?
I'm not looking for extra work, or a cashectomy, but if there is something in that area that routinely fails, please let me know!

Hoses without question.
 
The Brittek kit has hoses thrown in, I'm just chuffed I found calipers for $32 each which spurred me to work on this now.
I might see if it starts up this weekend if this job goes well.

Be careful, rebuilt parts from chain stores like that can be rebuilt with poor quality components to cut costs. You may want to inspect those calipers carefully. That's a critical safety component! I hope it works out for you. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
 
Shoot, for street use they should be fine.

I did inspect (thanks Steve, I may not have if you didn't have a concern), and here's what I found.....
Both the RH and LH calipers have the cutouts on the pistons facing UP. Everything I've read suggest the cutouts should face the hub.
Should I take them back or just move them around?
 
Barry, there has been quite a bit of discussion regarding the cutouts. If you want to rotate them, go ahead. I've removed calipers that had been installed with the pistons aligned, to find that the pistons had rotated themselves in the bores to a different position, and never noticed any effect on braking at all.
Replacement pistons generally don't even <u>have</u> cutouts in them.

Your ha'penny is worth more than that Jeff.
I guess our 'rebuild' freinds did just that, instead of 'replace'. There clearly is a cutout, I don't think it would show up on a pic.
Before I cast any negative judgement to the rebuilders/distributors, I'll see where my pistons sit in the current calipers.
So much for saving a couple of bucks.
At least all 4 pistons are in the same position, they're consistent....
