Which way to compress front springs?

OK, how do you put it back in?
 
Put the spring back into place on th' pan, shove the top into position and jack the assembly up until you can line up the pin in the trunion. It really is that easy.
And I've likely done more of 'em this way than Tony has. :jester:
 
I can't wait for the "refitting is the reversal of assembly" step! I'm waiting on parts from Moss. I'm eager, though, for when everything looks shiny and new.

You probably have, Doc....the way you described works fine if the engine's in the car....if it isn't, borrow your neighbor "Bubba" & have him lay over the front fender.

You don't "need" jack stands either, but it's safer to use them.

I was curious who offered a compressor that would fit in the MG springs, that's all. & you're right - I don't use jack stands until I start compressing them.

Tony, if I remember correctly, I saw a small one simular to mine at Advance Auto. I think it was around 30 bucks.
 
I'm still curious about the part as well. The jack method doesn't work too well when the engine isn't in the car. I made a spring compressor to use on my MGA project, but I don't like it and would like to find something better.
 
have your fat friend sit on the fender.
 
Or set a 2x4 between a rafter/truss & the suspension crossmember...I guarantee you the spring will compress before you lift your garage off the ground.
