TR4/4A Which TR4a to sell?

Hi Ian - she is a 1974 actually. Hard to tell given her modifications.

If the Whale Tail actually make a functional difference I might keep it but I need to be convinced

Please keep the whale tail! They were special equipment!

My dad had a '79 911 SC Targa with the whale tail in Guard's Red. Sold it/traded it in when he bought an '84 928. I've been searching the US for this car since before he passed away a few years back. Was originally going to find/present him with it. Now I want to relive my youth of riding with him listening to Tom Lehrer and Woody Guthrie.

Sorry for the side track. If you do opt to remove it, at least keepit around for it's next caretaker.

Jody

Hi Jody - yes, for sure I'd make sure it found a proper home or was well stored.

Cruising around in the Targa would be way cool. Good luck with your search Jody.

Tom,

Now if you like Porsche Targa's then you should follow me with my ultimate plan and keep both TR4As. One you keep soft top for the full top down experience and the other you outfit with a hard/Surrey top.

Since I just got a letter from my insurance company telling me that I need to remove the "debris" from the side yard in order for them to renew my coverage, I will not insist on you selling me the 67. That color is just fantastic on those cars. I can't see either 4 ever being up to the handling of your 6 as long as they are running spokes.

Seem to recall that they didn't use galvanized steel on those 74-76 super beetles

Hey Rich! I'll help w/the yard next time I've over that way.

And no - the super beetles aren't galvanized so finding one inland SoCal was important. She'll be swimming in cavity wax in short order.

I will vote for you to keep the solid axle car too, I have a warm spot in my heart for solid axle 4As, had one for many years, also, as someone else mentioned you have the TR6 for your IRS car, although some of the things you have mentioned lead me to believe the 6 may not be set up for cushy touring...

Hi G - correct, my TR6 isn't what you would call cushy at this point.

Seems like solid axles cars are in more demand, but are they in great supply as well aren't they?

Anyone know the ratio of solid axle to IRS TR4a produced?

Tom,

The general opinion is that 25% of them were solid axle so roughly 7000. One reference in how that number was arrived at was that 1 in 3 sold in the US were solid axle.

I'll have an Alfa Spider and MGC in the mix as well if that makes any difference. Plus a Bugeye.

Being this is a Triumph forum I think everyone missed something. Keep all the triuphs and get rid of the alfa. That makes it easy.

Tom,

Any decisions yet?

Scott
