Which sleeved thermostat is the best choice ?

I am ordering a sleeved thermostat from Moss. There are two to choose from. A bellows type and a wax type that " fails open ". Which of these lasts longer or works the best ? I am using a standard 7lb radiator cap so it would appear that I can use either one of these.
... Keoke ? ... Dave ? ... Anyone ?

Hi Ed,

I had the best luck with the thermostat from BCS. I have tried both the bellows and newer style thermostats from Moss. The bellows was a mistake on my part. It restricted the flow since the pressure in the BJ8 system caused it to close. I then ordered the newer wax-style 165 deg. thermostat from Moss. It started opening too soon and the car would always run 145-150 when it was a cold day or morning. I recently switched to the thermostat from British Car Specialists with good luck. It holds the lower temp at 165 as it should, even on very cold days and still opens wide for hot weather running (no overheat problems).

BCS must use a different vendor's product than Moss.
I guess I'll get one from BCS.

Hi ED, I run an original sleeved 160 degree wax stat thermostat. The BCS unit is very close to it and should work OK. Actually, any of the sleeved thermostats should not create a problem and in your neck of the woods I think the 160 degree unit would be just about right.-Fwiw--Keoke-AZ- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cowboy.gif
