I put together the flywheel, clutch, trans today. It seems that the slave push-rod is about 0.7" too short. I verified that the push-rod is the correct length for a 948 with smoothcase (2.75"), also the same as previous. The release bearing is new and the same dimensions as the old one. The clutch and pressure plate are the same parts I took off. The slave cylinder is the 7/8" bore. The clutch did not work well before the tear-down, I guess this is why. It would catch as soon as the petal came off the floor.

So which part is wrong? or should I just procure or fabricate a longer pushrod?

Is that a smooth case transmission?
 
Yes, I think everything is correct, just maybe need a longer pushrod. I can’t find a spec for how much tolerance there should be. It seems that it is subjective depending on what peddle height you want the clutch to engage.
 
I'm thinking your slave cylinder will not be compressed that far when connected to your MC.

I think you’re correct, hence no spec. It looks like that if I did increase the pushrod length by about .7” then the slave cyclinder could over run the travel of the fork and bend it.

Hopefully now that the previously very worn pushrod and fork bushing have been replaced the clutch will work better than before.

I think Trevor is correct, it has been a few years since I installed mine on my smooth case. When you charge the system the rod will be more forward. I would also notch the upper bolt hole of the slave, so you can more easily remove and install it when it is in the car.

A ote I saved many, many years ago. This may already be on Gerard's Website.

Per Frank C. 1275slave rod is 2-11/16" from the center of the hole to the end.
1275 it should measure 3" from the center of the hole to the end of thepushrod. The 948 and 1098 cars are only 2 1/2" long
