Which oil pump to buy?

I think you are correct about the oil being a little cooler causing the higher pressure. Next week I will pull the oil pan and check out the pump and measure some bearing clearances. Thanks

Keoke, I was getting water in the oil under the valve cover, more than just condensation. The new head gasket plus some block sealer has solved that problem. Right after the new head gasket, I still had some water under the valve cover. It might have still been a small leak or just residual water in the system. So I had the head retorqued and we added some block sealer to the radiator. In any event that problem now seems behind me, so it is just the oil pressure that I need to increase. Has anyone tried anything other than what Dave has mentioned to repair or smooth the pressure relied valve seat?

Hi Skip,
If the engine were completely apart, the valve could be lapped to it's seat. The residue would have to be thoroughly flushed out for obvious reasons. I usually check this seating while the block is bare & can be easily cleaned. Same with the remachining that Keoke mentioned. I think the filter is down stream from the relief valve so any grit from lapping or machining "should" be caught by the filter, but it's kind of scary. If the valve still leaks after your tries, a higher output oil pump, if there really is such a thing, could compensate for some leakage. Don't forget to check bearing clearances if you have the pan off.

The reason I have concentrated on the relief valve is because you said earlier that working on it helped the pressure but was not consistent. Worn bearings and or a worn oil pump could also be the cause of low pressure, as could suction leaks on the intake side of the oil pump.
Hope someone has a better idea.

Well Dave, It sure ain't much better but it just might be a loose oil galley plug at the front or rear of the block.-Nasty,Nasty Problem.---Keoke
