MGB Which MGB parts are interchangable?

I have found a 1974 MGB GT parts car. How much of it will crossover (crossback) to a 1967 MGB GT?
Glass is good and so seem the wires. What else might fit? Body is shot and it is a parts car only.

Would anyone know?

Lots of parts will fit; although some will not be "correct". Get a Moss/VickyBrit catalog and have a look.

For example, the later car will have lots of extra bits that the early one won't (emissions stuff). There will be all sorts of cosmetic differences (seats, dash, gauges, steering wheel, etc).

So, while parts may "fit" or "interchange", they won't be correct for that model year if that matters to you.

You basically have a Mk2 and a Mk3 MGB (I think).

I'f I'm not mistaken almost all the parts can be moved from one car to the other. However, like Scott said, they won't necesarily be the correct parts for the year of the car. On the interior, there were some pretty significant changes to the dash and center console. The seats ought to interchange but I believe there's some differences there too. You ought to be able to swap engines and transmissions, but there's differences in the head, and intake manifolds for emissions. I believe the carbs are also different, if I'm not mistaken. Your '67 should have HS4s, while the '74 has HIS4s; though I'm not 100% certain on this one. I *think* there's a difference in axles too; one has a "Salisbury" axle and the other a "Banjo" axle, but I don't know which should have which.

HTH (Hope this helps), and someone ought to be along to correct me where I might have mislead. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The glass & wire wheels were the main concern as I know there is a big difference in the other bits. My car is basically an untouched original car but the glass is very scratched. The front has arcs from the Wipers (or lack of) and the rear & drivers window are really bad.
I offered the guy $150 to take the car away and maybe I can part out the rest.

ah well... If I'm not mistaken, the glass ought to interchange fine. I don't know about the wire wheels though. I have no idea if the spline count/pattern changed between those years. Sorry.

...and duh I did not think to use Moss or VB as a reference tool for cross reference.

Your steering wheel IS the same as mine, BTW.

Most of suspension is the same; engine is kinda close - transmission is completely different; fenders are different, doors & all mechanisms are different; glass is the same; dash & wiring is different; trunk & hood are different

there's more that's different than similar...when I disassemble MKI cars, I store their stuff separately as you have to know individual items to swap into a later car - especially a rubber bumper car.

Thanks all.
What years are mark 1, 2 & 3?

MkI is through '67

then '68 through '74

then '74-1/2 through end of run
