Where's the spark coming from?

Alright, Now my big issue is the turn signals. I'm not gettin' any spark to the switch in the car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

I don't think it's the switch itself cause when I feed a hot wire into the connection, the signals work when I hit the switch. ...now they ARE solid NOT blinking, but I think that's beside the point cause w/o this, THEY AIN'T DOIN' SQUAT! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif.

Now I think (take that for what it's worth) that the fire/spark/heat/whatever... should be coming from the "Light green/Brown" wire (at least that's the one I fed it through) Now, where that should be bringing it from is anybody's guess!

Actually, looking at the wiring diagram (Yes, I know..Uugh) it looks as though it's coming from the flasher unit which is coming from the hazard warning switch which has the green wire coming from the reverse lamp switch and the foot bone's connected to the ankle bone and the ankle bone's connected... send help please. I don't know how much longer I have til the white coats come w/the special jacket! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I recently had to trouble shoot my blinkers first I found that they simply will not work if the hazard switch had been accidentally turned on (they do nothing). Also take a look at your fuses, a short on one side doesn't necessarily create a short on the other, so depending on where your switch is connected you may not be getting power to the switch. (ie turning on my blinkers was causing my stereo and fuel guage to turn on and off)
 
First run down the wires. Make yoursel a little test rig light bulb and test at the rear and front blinters. if that works test at the flasher unit and so on and so forth.
My personal bet is on Mr. Lucas' flasher unit.
 
Uhmmm...from memeory (it's been a few years now) it should be under the dash left of the steering column. Hit the hazzard switch and listen for the "click - click", and you'll find it - if it works at all.
 
There was a forum question on this posted on 03/15/05. According to the responses, "The turn signal flasher is on the bulkhead above the glove compartment. Open the glove box and look above the bundle of wires running across, and there are two small boxes mounted to the bulkhead. One is the voltage regulator for the fuel gauge (has a purple and white wire and a green and black wire), and the other is the signal flasher." Hope this helps.
 
I've found 90% of the time, if the problem is the complete circuit is dead (like you said, if you feed a known hot wire to the switch, it works)the problem is a dirty hazard switch. That is where the power is taken from for the signals
Those switches can be carefully dismantled, and cleaned.(take careful note of the orientation of the rocker blades inside before you pull it out of the housing)
Spray the dismantled switch parts with electronics cleaner and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser. then apply a few dabs of di-electric grease before you put it back togeather. and don't forget to clean up the spade terminals on the back before you put it back in the car.
Or you can order a new one, but where's the fun in that?
