Where was the original speaker?

When I bought my '67 TR4A it came with it's original radio uninstalled. I mounted it just to plug the the hole, but had no interest in hooking it up. Now, all of a sudden I'm curious, where did the original speaker mount? I can't find any evidence of an external speaker. Personally, I would rather listen to the exhaust note, but I would like to know...
 
On my '64 TR4 the speaker was in the radio.
 
Probably depends on what radio was added. A common location was in the passenger footwell, hanging down from the bulkhead ledge. That's where mine is on my 4 - and it still is able to put out an authentic tinny and scratchy sound!

My 66 has the original radio which says Triumph Triumph on the front. The speaker is mounted in the top right of the passenger footwell hanging down from a metal bracket that allows the textured black speaker to swivel. It has no markings so don't know if it is original or something a dealer here did. Can't hear it but I smile knowing it works.
 
This Motorola is from my '68 GT6 and is believed to be original. The dealer here put them in every Triumph.
The speaker box was a Triumph item - I think - and was mounted (as this is) in the passenger's footwell. These come up on ebay from time to time.

Basically, any Triumph originally delivered in North America would have only "what the dealer did". The factory did not install radios in cars bound for overseas markets, to avoid them being damaged or stolen during shipping. The only exception, AFAIK, would be "personal export" vehicles that were originally picked up in Europe and then shipped by the owners.
 
Although they were dealer installed, that exact bracket seems to show up time and again on TR4s (including mine). Don't know whether this implies factory involvement or some scheme on the part of the US organization.

On mine a look under the bonnet shows the 2 screws used for hanging that bracket in the footwell:

Perhaps yours has holes (or the remains of 2 holes) in that area?

Motorola seems to be the usual radio for TR4As... on TR4s I think Bendix is often found. Push-button, AM only.
 
Life was so much simpler then. Only the AM band to listen to, in a car that made so much noise, you could not hear it anyway.
 
For some reason my TR4a had speakers under the dash in the footwells just forward and below the radio. A little forward of the scuttle brace. I've no idea if it's the original location or not of the speakers, but it was pretty good sound with hte top up.
 
As Geo said, it was generally up to the dealer to install the radio and there were varying types available.

Unfortunately I'm only able to pull in one English-speaking station on my AM!
