Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

I'm replacing hoses, belts, fuel lines in my MK III Midget and purchased from Victoria British a "Flexline-Carb/Carb 13.5" braided hose. See page 84 in the 2010 Winter Edition SM.59 Victoria Brit catalog, under "fuel lines and Fixings" at top right, it's #12.

It didn't fit! It's maybe an inch or so short.

So, where might I find a bigger one? I need at least 14.5", maybe 15", and I'd like to get the braided kind. Is there a better solution, better hose?

Anyone? My carb setup is stock, manifold is stock, no strange spacing between carbs, all stock.

Thanks!

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

Didn't someone recommend some sort of VW fuel hose recently?

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

You can "rebuild" your old lines. I 'rebuilt' my fuel hoses on my Mk-II. Take the old fuel line and soak the ends with the plastic finishing strip in hot water and they will expand enough to slide them off. Next remove the metal covering and replace it with new rubber fuel line. If you are in an area with 10 to 15% ethanol gas use fuel line for vw's as it will last. After you have installed the new rubber inside of the metal covering use some thin tape to temporally secure then ends. Resoak the finish pieces in hot water and slide them on to the hose far enough for you to remove the tape and then before it cools and shrinks slide it too it's correct position.

Ray, I'm wondering if that's the exact same hose they sell at Moss here (i.e., the one that doesn't fit)???

IF you have one, how long is it? Again, I need it to be at least 15".

Hmmmm . . .

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

Moss Europe says it 14". I have one somewhere in a box I'll try to find and measure. Part numbers I've found are AEA588 and GGT106

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

you might try some of the aftermarket custom shops in town - strikes me this is the sort of thing low riders and tuners would use all the time

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

I got new hose from Peter C. at Worldwide Imports. I can't access it now but it was longer than I needed for my carbs and I use the extra length for the last portion of the fuel line supplying the carbs. The carbs on my 948 are H4's.

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

I assume you want stainless armored hose like on a race car. It is available in any length any size on the net. Otherwise, any car parts has hose of many sizes on rolls, specify it is for fuel.

Jack, could you please indicate where on the net the "flex" hose (stainless mesh, like the one above I got from VB) may be purchased? I've looked and didn't find what I needed. Don't need regular fuel hose, I'm lookin' for the mesh armored in 15" length. It has to be 15" or 16".

Thanks!

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

Mark, you can use an MGB line. they have one that is 15" and 22" and the number is 376-920 for the 22 and 376-340 for the 15.

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

Alan, that may be the ticket. I wonder if the MGB hose OD is correct for my Midget's HS2 fuel lines which are 1/4" (one fourth inch) OD???

Midget fuel line OD and hoses same size as an MGB???

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

Yes they are 1/4 ID because I got the 22" line for my car as I am rerouting my fuel line to my HIF44 carb. mod.

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

Jack, you're the man! Perfect. So, how does the "AN" eqate to my Midget's 1/4 OD fuel lines???

By the miracle of editing, here's how to convert:

Hose Size is the measurement of the Inner Diameter of the hose measured in units of 1/16th of an inch.

a -2 hose has an I.D. of 1/8"
a -3 hose has an I.D. of 3/16"
a -4 hose has an I.D. of 1/4"
a -5 hose has an I.D. of 5/16"
a -6 hose has an I.D. of 3/8"
a -8 hose has an I.D. of 1/2"
a -10 hose has an I.D. of 5/8"
a -12 hose has an I.D. of 3/4"
a -16 hose has an I.D. of 1"
a -20 hose has an I.D. of 1 1/4"

Thanks to everyone for the info.

Re: Where to get "carb to carb" flexline hose????

AN was the brainchild of the government. AN meaning army navy. It comes in different sizes based on 16" (not sure how they came up with this), example # would be 4/16 or 1/4" and so on. Expensive and available but no sure where you can get the rubber ends. They have tapered fitting using a 37 degree angle insted of the 45 usually found. This I learned years ago and if I'm wrong let me know. Bruce
