In reading Joseph H Wherry's book, "The MG Story," (copyright 1967) I read that the first MG was in the British Motor Corporation's museum. Is this museum still in existence, and if so do they still have this car? If not, does anyone know where it is?

I think it's in the National Motor Museum in England, or the British Motor Heritage Centre. A museum is as specific as I can be. Either way, it's still in England, I think. Interesting little car. "MG-The Untold Story" by David Knowles has some interesting info on the car, and on very early, rare MG's. Out of print, but a good buy if you find one.

The "Number 1" *sporting* MG is shown here....a red roadster built in 1925, with primitive angled fenders (this picture was taken at Goodwood in '99):

An equally famous early MG was a saloon (sedan), often referred to as "the auld speckled 'un". According to "MG" by McComb: The "Old Specked Hen" was a 1927 14/40 M.G. Featherweight Fabric Saloon in 'grained black fabric sprinkled with gold dust'. The body covered in fabric instead of metal with the seats attached to the frame. After the move from Oxford to Abingdon the car became the factory gofer car. The well-know British beer is named in honor of this car. It can be seen here:
