Wedge Where does one find a Rimmer Aley Bar for TR8

With out trying to import it from England with the horrible exchange rate and the shipping cost? Any ideas?

Try the Wedge shop.

Maybe if we buy 2 they'll give us a 50% discount?

I already emailed Woody trying to see if he carried them but I will mention it is actually a deal to buy 2

Well Woody says the Shipping is prohibitive, any one else with an idea?

Wait for one of Rimmers 'shipping sales'. They used to have those every so often. You might ask them if they still have them or not? Their US sales go up dramatically during those times.

They haven't done it in several years now. They were pursuing the US market vigorously a few years back, sending representatives to VTR and offering free shipping at the same time, to drum up new customers. But I've heard they decided it wasn't worth the expense.

They were our main sponsor at the 2001 VTR in Breckenridge. They talked a lot about putting a warehouse on the east coast to reduce overseas shipping costs. Sort of a US Rimmers location. That never happened and I guess enough got sick of hearing about it.

From what I have heard of the "Aley Bar" though is that it is simply a double hoop with a vinyl wrap to give it a solid look.

I spent a good del of my evening researching it, and it remains an enigma. I do like the look and will keep looking for one coming up for sell in the US, surely some one has one and wants to part with it. I will give Rimmer an email later today to see what they have to say.

It looks like it is just two small tubes welded side by side with a piece of sheet metal tacked over it. My bro in law had one in his Midget. Not exactly a safety device or any type of chassis stiffener. The whole thing would have to mount on the rear deck just above the gas tank on some of the thinest metal in the car. If you still have your heart set on one, I can make one of those up for you for less than what they are charging. Looks to be about 50 bucks in material and about three hours work. Additional ones would take less time once I get the dimensions figured out.

Hmmmm not want I want or need. I need something that will provide a little body stiffness. They do look sharp though. I will have to go to the local fabricator and see what he can do if Woody does not have anything. The shipping would have to be the killer on something like that.
