TR4/4A Where are the vin Numbers located on a 66 TR-4?

Anyone Know where I can find the vin Numbers on a 1966 TR 4?
Seems that this car is missing them. Would there be numbers anywhere else on the vehicle? So far I have no title and no Vin #'s

Jim

Can't answer your question, Jim, but wanted to point out that the authorities take a VERY dim view of such activities. Unless you can get a BMIHT certificate from one of the other numbers fastened to the body (not just engine, gearbox, etc.), you might be better off throwing yourself on the mercy of the DMV (or whatever the FL equivalent is). They will have a process for assigning the car a new VIN number and creating a proper title.

Otherwise, you risk jail time for tampering with the VIN (ie attaching a new VIN plate).

Open the bonnet, beside the battery tray on the flat surface in front of the firewall, passenger side,(the other side is full of brake and clutch stuff), there should be a small aluminium plate riveted. stamped on the plate is the VIN.

Other identifying numbers are on the block, gearbox and back axle.

The VIN is the commission number on that aluminum plate and should start with CTC for the TR4A or CT for the late TR4 followed by numbers like 39652 up to 75000. These numbers would be followed by an L for left hand drive and maybe even an O at the end for Overdrive if the car has that option.

Commission numbers started at around CTC 50001, although the solid-axle variant still carried CT prefix. Regardless of rear axle style, numbers ran concurrently. Supposedly, the last car was CTC 78684, built July 10, 1967. This from the VTR web site.

By chance was this a Texas TR4? There was one I knew of a while back with a similar lack of identity. Just curious if so, I wondered what condition it was in.
