Hi Gang,
As some you might know,I am a fleet mechanic for UPS.In the last few months,I have posted quite a few posts. In all the posts ,I've never heard back from any women. At work, we have quite a few women mechanics and I would say they are atleast as good as or better at repairing and understanding the equipment we work on.I hope this post dosen't upset anyone.I just think that it's odd that the ladies aren't involved too.
I know this is an odd post, but I thought I would throw it out there anyway.

Interestingly, there was the same thread goin on over in the Triumph forum a week or two ago. It's hard to tell gender sometimes with the Forum names we give ourselves. Healeygal hasn't posted for a while. I'm not sure if Judow works on her car. Maybe she'll chime in here shortly.

We've several female members over on the MG Forum who contribute quite a bit to our discussions....also some who pop into the Pub occassionally.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif Good Morning. I only do general maintenance on Agatha as my husband and mechanic are very knowing when it comes to her engine. It is not above me to get grease under my fingernails but the problem I have with mechanics is not always knowing the names of the parts. I generally go to Moss Motors or British Victoria to look at the schematics of whatever system I think might be giving me a problem. My lack of expertise really has nothing or all to do with gender. As an old lady I wasn't given the opportunity to work on the family vehicles because I was supposed to be a lady. Gratefully not so now. Both husband and mechanic are eager to allow me to help or watch. I've learned much but am only qualified to be involved with Agatha. She's a very tolerant 100-M.

Lastly, I am most grateful for any response I get when I have a problem. It allows me to understand. I read frequently all the posts but generally stay out of the mechanical queries because of my lack of nomenclature. As a fine example see the post regarding the 100-M dieseling problem. Husband is still finding my reference to 'thingies' interesting and a base for his humor.

And no bobby, your post is not upsetting to this female!

Team_Sprite recently led a team of female high school students in the complete resto of a bugeye. And they did a super job. And just FYI - if you feel it necessary to start a thread with "I hope this doesn't upset anyone" then it might be best to not post it. Just food for thought.

Judow it is a well-known fact that "Thingies", "Doofers" and "Wotsits" are established part names on old vehicles.

Just as "wanger", "twister", "banger" and "scrapey thingo" are accepted names for tools - the spanner, screwdriver, hammer and paintscraper alike.

I only give something a name if there is someone there to hand it to me...... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

My wife Mary worked in her father's service station as a kid pumping gas, checking oil and water and cleaning windshields. Though she prefers me to do the heavy work she readily pitches in when I need an assistant with such chores as bleeding brakes (and adjusting windshield rake).

BTW she was happy to have the hardtop on her car painted as a Xmas gift--an unusual woman to say the least. Here's a picture of her in her 3000 taken when she was alone on a 300+ mile trip.

They are also established names when the owners are equally old -- and forgetful!

On a slightly different but related topic, I just recently got the NAPA calendar and I have to ask the same question "Where are all the girls?"

Apparently fully clothed and downright angry looking... some of them.

I just wanted to pine a bit for the good old days when car parts calendars involved lots of thong bikinis, round bits and soap bubbles!

Interestingly I also got this year's Pirelli Calendar and, well, if you don't mind 13 year old girls scantily dressed in artsy fartsy Asian kimono silks with Rococo underwear that show more of a young girl than I care to see. Maybe call me prudish but somehow the international fashion set just doesn't seem to have have any respect for the innocence of feminine youth these days.

Ok.. back to cars. My first girlfriend in High School showed me how things worked on her '74 Firebird. She was a blonde bombshell who also taught me to surf in Santa Barbara. Talk about a car guy's definition of super sexy!
