WHERE ARE ALL THE MGers???

Thanks, Bob. The original ones I have are OK; just grungy. Got 'em cleaned up and am working on installing them. The problem is lining everything up with the carpet and extra insulation I've added. Not a fun job!

Got up this morning and finally got the driver's seat installed. Lesson learned: DON'T buy new seat rails/slides. The old ones work beautifully, once cleaned up and greased.

SHEESH!

Mine was a bit harder to install, since I added extra heat and sound insulation. Longer mounting bolts were more difficult to fit in the limited space on the rails. But at least now that seat's in. I think the passenger side is going to be a bit easier with the experience gained from the driver's seat.

Also a tip: take a zip tie and tie off the adjustment lever so you don't need a third (or fourth) hand while trying to line up holes and move the seat back and forth for access to the bolts.

Well, ya all know how it goes. I have 2 grandkids now and the family things have been jumping. Spent a week in TAMPA in March, then installed a back up generator at the inlaws house in case the power ever goes out again...etc.,etc.,etc.,

But the good news is that I got the B out on Sunday (Father's Day is to do what I want to do, right?) She started right up and took off a running once we got everything checked out. Still have to figure out why the ignition light stays on all the time.

It is summer, time to drive! :driving:

well, i am back after a few years and lurkign in the MIdget forum. Plenty for me to add as I have a million questions!!!!

 Welcome home, BJ!

I don't post here that often,as I haven't done much
other than drive the GT.Right now I'm waiting to get my starter
solenoid repaired.
It only took about 6 hours to r&r the starter, but I
was able to pull it out again in about 10 minutes.
We had a car show here in Eureka,on Woodley Island,
in the grass.Lots of MG's,but no GT's.We had 56 cars entered,up
from 35 the year before.

thank ye kindly!!

I have seldom posted over here, and that has probably been a good thing for you folks. But I find the question interesting as it mirrors observations of my own about other sites of many different sorts, not just cars or old MGs. Things don't all look to be all that different at the other MG sites I visit. Perhaps the most active seems to have lost(?) a fair number of its long term and "top contributor" members either permanently or to other interests. Others have been in the doldrums (by my lights) ever since having been rocked by flame wars and cross forum rivalry years ago.

I am probably wrong, but perhaps what you are seeing is a "sea change", a cultural change, not only of how people view their particular branch of "the hobby" but the larger hobby of auto restoration and classic car ownership? Could be in the current economic environment we find ourselves in.

It could also be that a different generation of owners simply wants something different. Maybe they want more discovery and less absolute expertise. Maybe for them, as it was for us, discovery on their own is as worthwhile a reward as getting the car fixed and running.

It could be also that folks will go to meets where they know folks (from their clubs, long standing friendly relationships) as opposed to jumping into forums where passions run high sometimes and folks get scorched feathers and bruised egos from contact with folks they don't even know and maybe never will? That may not happen here, but many folks are members of several forums. For many folks who have been online for a long time, many change interests or simply tire of the experience and go looking for something different.

I'm not trying to be negative or interject negativity into this forum, but the question raised has also brought to light some interesting and differing observations that don't often get discussed or thought about. The cars are still the center of interest, but then the people and the hobby they create spell the future and where it's headed.

Very good thoughts, Bob! There's a difference between negativity and simply posing questions and opinions. It's all in the intent, and you raise some interesting ideas.

I do know of folks who left this forum because of hurt feelings and misunderstandings. Whether those were intentional on the part of those involved, we may never know. The possibility of a certain anonymity can move some to saying (writing) something they might never do in person. The reality is that we are still in a learning mode with this medium of discourse.

As moderator, I've often been at odds as to whether to edit or delete a comment or thread, and at times have acted too soon; other times not soon enough. Appreciation has been offered here many times for Basil's policy which does not condone flaming or discussion of subjects which easily can lead to same. Others have actually left because of it.

I'm on the MG Experience Forum and that can be awkward for me as a moderator here. It is a different place with a different tone. But even over there, the members do a pretty good job of policing one another.

The BCF historically has had a lower activity on the MG side than the MGE, but that certainly doesn't lower its value to those involved. Maybe it's "quality; not quantity"! :jester: [In case the intent of that comment is misconstrued, even with the smilie, that was a good-natured barb.]

At any rate, it's good that you posted. Come back soon!

Mickey

Oh, and for those who aren't familiar with Bob, be sure to check out his website - some great info there!

When I started this thread, I was hoping to initiate that little nudge to bring the gang back to life. You know, like, "hey where have you been? haven't heard from you in a long time, miss your input!" Knowing that we all have other interests and obligations, it was not intended for explanations to be necessary for someones absence, but it seems to have worked to a degree and gave some an excuse to drop in again and say hello! Funny how you miss someones presence, their comments, along with their knowledge and input on any particular subject. When someone sort of drops from the scene, makes you wonder if all's well. I've learned a lot over the years about these little British cars we think so much of from the vast amount of knowledge displayed by the ladies and gents who frequent this and other forums and enjoy them very much. I'm sure others feel the same. Hope all are well and enjoying life! SAFETY FAST! PJ

I've been out crusing my B since replacing the cracked head! :driving:

Thanks for your responses! I don't always know if my observations are out in left field somewhere or at least are shared by a few others.

I read and absorb everything that you post, Bob!

Thanks, Rick, it has been a long time together on the internet, and I've always appreciated your common-sensical approach and pragmatism, and willingness to do the work of fostering enthusiasm for the marque. I am grateful for all of those I've met over the years with a similar spirit.
