I'd expected this forum to be a LOT more active than it is.

If you're LURKING and not posting, shame-shame. I'm gonna go over to the "OTHER" forum and recruit!

Most of the early Lotus owners I know have multiple examples, so I ~KNOW~ there's a good reason for joining this bunch.

Re the original question re hard-core Lotus types, there are a few. I'd include myself although I am currently Lotusless. Most of them are too busy working on their cars to spend time on the net. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
I love Lotus cars. Unforunatly I don't have one currently so not much to talk about. I am going to start my Seven clone build soon though.

I don't expect current ownership status determines whether or not one may post here. Also a valid point with regard to where the others may be... "Porsche owners get together and look at eachothers' cars. Lotus owners get together and look at photos of eachothers' cars on blocks inna garage!"

Sad, but sommat true.

Speaking of Elans and Lotus-Cortinas, does anyone remember what those spring-like washers that are used on twinks under the nuts holding the Webers on are called? (How's that for sentence construction?) These are the ones that supposedly control the flex in the carb mounts to tame the effects of vibration. I want to recommend them for a different application (of Webers) but can't remember what they're called. (Thacker washers? Thatchery nuts?)
 
Thackery washers is right. You should use them on the lower carb studs and rubber on the upper studs, that's the ideal setup. I don't know where the lotus guys are, but this certainly is one of if not the least active forums at britishcarforums, that's for sure.
 
I thought it was "Thackary", but my mind was shot long ago: So fulla 'pooter poop now its a wonder ANYTHING car related is in there. I ~miss~ the days when a good bench racing session was done leanin' over some F-A or E-Prod LBC, preppin' for the weekend event... Back inna Day.

Used to be a JOKE referrin' to "Cubic Dollars" to campaign a sommat competitive entry. Now it's a reality.

I could be wrong, but I think it's actually spelled "Thackeray". And my take on why there aren't more Lotusphiles here is that (as mentioned above) they are on dedicated lists/forums. -Dan
 
Well I'm "hard core" but dont post much on here as there doesn't seem to be much Lotus chat.
As regards the carb mounting washers, the Lotus workshop manual refers to them as "double coil spring washers" and both the Paul Matty CATALOGUE and the QED CATALOGUE list them as "Thackery Washers"
Ofcourse you guys in the States have your own english /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif

All the cars listed below ('xcept Diesela, 'course) are Weber'd this way and it works just fine.
 
You go with your personal experience, I'll go with mine.

All mine have dual side drafts except for the '67. I'm no longer using them.

Eschew th' bloody Thakeray washers! I wasn't tryin' to start a "Civil War" over the preferred method of carb mountings.

Hey it's all good man, for a street car with a small cam and well adjusted floats a more solid mount is fine.. On a track or especially an off road car with lot's of vibration in the motor the fuel can partially atomize in the float chamber and run the motor lean, which can spell disaster at racing rpm's. It's not the bumps and jostling that cause this, it's the high frequency vibrations, and a little flexability in the carb mount helps this alot...

It just depends on the application, and how lucky you've been in the past.

People are finally discussing something on this forum, and I don't want it spoiled by a big fight!
