When to replace spark plugs

What determines the correct spark plug gap and when they should be replace?

October 2013 I installed Champion RN12YC plugs and gapped them to .035
I was told because I'm using a Lucas sports coil and Pertronics, to gap them to .035. However I've recently been advised that I don't need to gap it at .035 and to return to the factory recommend .025. Any opinions on that?

Lucas side mounted distributor cap has been replaced with a top mounted style.
Wires are 7mm Carbon Impregnated fiberglass core (copper wire was interring with the electronic tach)

I have 8775 miles on those spark plugs.
How many miles till they should be replaced?

HI :

If you are using the Lucas sport coil and a pertronicx then 0.035 Gap is about right'

Pull the plugs and clean them if look good you can reinstall them .

I prefer to limit my plug use to 10 K miles but i travel long distances..
