Wheel query??

Wondering if anyone has tried fitting Spitfire wire wheels to a Spridget or knows why the wheel sellers don't recommend it.
Also curious about performance 13 inch tires. Very few 13's being offered. Anyone that can make recommendations?

Thanks,
Kurt.

Wrong bolt pattern

Trev-He's talking about wire wheels. I can't say if they fit but it's an interesting question (do they have differnt splines?)

Sumitomo makes an HTR-200 radial in the 13" size. I had them on my street Spridget and the 14" size is on my MGB right now. Not a great tire but a decent value.

oops, I was reading on a phone.

Word is Sumitomo HTR200 summer performance tires are not available any more and comeback on the Auto X list says splines and hubs are different from Spit to Spridget.
I had always thought that there were only a couple of Rudge Whitworth hub patterns. The little as on spridgets and the big as on jags. Have I been wrong all these years.
At any rate I'm haveing no luck.

Kurt.

Didn't realize the Sumis were gone.

OK, you might try ~these~

If you don't drive too much, you might also look at the DOT 13" race tires (like the Toyo R888 in 185/60-13").
I race on them and I imagine they'd last about 8,000 miles in gentle street driving. Not cheap ($155). You can also get the Hoosier TDs bias tires in A70-13" size (I think about $120 each), but again, a soft race tire that won't last real long.

More research shows that there are many Rudge Whitworth configuration's though only a few that are common. Unfortunatly the Spitfire uses a special short hub.
As to tires, thanks for the input but I need 175/70 13's so I'm still looking but will probably end up with the Sumitomo all season. Got a good source other than Tire Rack?

Kurt.

The splines are all the same until you get up to the Jaguar, and bolt on wheels offset are the same for the Spitfire and Spridget, the splined hub length, I lend that info to Kurt, it seems he has done his homework, and I have no idea.

Yeah Hap, its a bummer! Sooo, anyone have any ideas for cheap 4.5 inch wire wheels for a spridget or a better tire source?

Kurt.

Do you really want wire wheels? Have you considered converting to bolt on?

Well yes Trevor, I'll be doing that in the future on my other wire wheeled cars. I've driven Brit Sports cars for 40+ years and in my youth I hated wires and avoided them. They are a PITA but now that you never see them on anything they do look very cool in my opinion. This car is going to perform and could use wider wheels but I probably won't be looking for any after this.

Kurt.
