Wheel painting frustration

Just another piece of information. I use Martin Senior Tuff Coat semi-gloss on my chassis, it comes in gloss also. I prime with self etching primer, let it set at the manufactures time specification, then shoot two coats of color on. It's very durable and resistant to stone chips and looks great when done. Just my 2 cents worth. PJ

This will not be what you want to hear, but....
I have always had good luck with the silver wheel paint sold by Eastwood regardless of the ambient temperature. It is more expensive than Duplicolor or Rustoleum but it gives very good, original looking results.

Doug,

Do you have the dry/recoat times for the eastwood paint? I couldn't find any details on their website. I got up early and painted a wheel yesterday while it was cool. Results with duplicolor were a lot better but still hard to do a decent job on all the nooks and crannies. The most challenging spots are the 1/2" gaps between the rim and the center piece. I'm thinking a slower drying paint would be more forgiving. I'd also like the ability to do some sanding without having to wait 7 days to recoat.

I checked the can and I did not find the recoat time on it either. They have all the usual info on how to prep the surface and that several light coats are better than one heavy coat. They even mentioning enhancing gloss by doing a final top coat with their diamond clear for painted surfaces. But... no info on how long to wait between coats.

It has been years since I contacted their tech support line but when I did, I was impressed with their response. It may be worth your while to email or call them to see if they have recommendations for the recoat time.

Disappointing response.

I was hoping for more than just flash time but at least that gives you something to work with.
