What should I use as grease to reinstall the wire wheel? Same as the bearing grease? Does it need to be high temp.?
 
I always used whatever was goin' in the bearings. Anti-seize too.

I'm done with that talking crap....

Everything I have worked on has either an AN jam nut or castellated nut & cotter pin.(or safety wire)

People that go for a ride with me do enough of the bird-worm thing.

Be absolutely British and use Coppa-Slip,Available from Moss Motors .---Keoke
 
Those wheel bearings don't know what brand of grease your using, and don't care. Use a high temp fibrous wheel bearing grease and pack the bearings good. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif PJ
 
Same old grease for packing the bearings or spray on white lithium grease...I'll tell you that, on the cars where I grease the splines quarterly, I use spray-on lithium; the cars that are stored & where the wheels are only pulled occassionally, I use the wheel bearing grease.
 
I use Permatex antiseize on my wire wheels.
It is a silver gray color, and unlike regular grease when
it seeps out down the spokes, it is not noticeable.
 
I like that idea also. From what I have heard, if you swipe a little silcone across the inside of the hub covering the spoke ends, it will not allow any grease to seep out.
 
Good idea - however, I cover the insides of my wheels where the spokes come through with silicone - primarily to keep spokes from puncturing tube but also to keep water, etc out.
 
Mike, I know this is going to sound like, I DON'T WANT TO DO IT!, but the next time you pull the wheels, clean all the gook out of the hubs so the inter hub is clean to the bone and dry, then put silicone sealer around all the spoke ends on the inside of the hub. When dry, antiseize them up and no more worries about leaks. Sounds like fun huh. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif PJ
