Wheel bearings...

I just got a new set of front wheel bearings for my '76 'B. I noticed that they aren't "tapered". This seems kind of odd. The only other car I owned that didn't have tapered front wheel bearings was a 1980 Suzuki Jimny while I was in Okinawa, but that thing must have weighed half of what an MGB weighs and it only had a 550CC engine in it.

So, i guess why non-tapered front wheel bearings? Don't the tapered bearings provide more lateral force strength?

The bearings should be tapered. Perhaps you are looking at them in their races. The set that I got came with inner and outer bearing and new races. The bearings were packaged in the races so they apper to not be tapered unless you take them out of the package and out of the races. Also note when taking your old bearings off that there are oil seals at the back of the hub. These look like races, and you should note the orientation of the oil seals when you take the hubs apart and don't forget to put them back in or you can mess all kinds of things up. Hope this helps =)
