Wheel and Tires for BJ7

I've read all the discussions about wheels and tires, but they just leave me confused. My BJ7 is nearing completion of a nuts and bolts restoration and the time has come to order wheels and tires. Here's my questions:
- I would like 5" wide 60 spoke Dayton wire wheels (yes, I know it's not original) and want Vredenstein tires. Will they fit my BJ7?
- If they will fit, what size tire should I buy?

It is hard to give advice about tire size without some idea of how you plan to drive the car. Since 5 inch rims are wider, but do not really alter the appearance, I have to assume you may be interested in driving the car hard and want wider tires. But that is just a guess. Becuase I can;t be sure, here is some general advice.

The 165s will fit just fine and be about the same as original. I have the 185s on my BJ8 and I suspect they will fit your car also, but I do not know if there are any clearance issues with the different rear suspension of the BJ7. If you plan to drive the car hard on 185 tires, I would advise you to get the 72 spoke wheels.

5" Rim OK bnut will contain 72 spokes.

(yes, I know it's not original) and want Vredenstein tires. Will they fit my BJ7?----- Yes

!85 x 70 x 15 will work---Fwiw--Keoke

Just one more point to add, I fell into the trap of thinking that 60 spoke wheels would fit the BJ7 else where on this forum, they won't unless you have the late model - 24367 onwards.

Based on one of the above poster's suggestion, I spoke to Allen Hendrix, who recomended the 14.5 wide 60 spoke wheel on Vredenstein 165/15 tires. It sure sounded like he knows his stuff. Thanks for everyone's help!

Oops, I meant 4.5.

That's what I have on my BJ7 and am very satisfied. Rides like a dream. I don't race the car or drive very fast and have had no problems. If you want to race the car I'd stay away from wire wheels altogether.

FWIW I've got 60 spoke on my early 22000 series BJ-7 with no issues?

Well I thought that they would fit but was shot down. I checked with the AH spares catalogue after that, and their info is definely for the later BJ7s. I do not know why, unless the calipers at the front were a problem, but did they change on the later BJ7s?
