Hi Healey Owners,

I changed my steering lever on my LHD BN6 because is still was from an RHD. Now I have to re-align my wheels. What do I have to adjust? I took a look into the workshop manual and noticed that the toe-in has to be aligned with specific settings.

Is that all?

Hi Volker

Yes setting the toe in as described in the shop manual should solve the problem if the steering arm was also installed as specified too.--Fwiw--Keoke
 
There may be alignment marks on the shaft and the arm which can be aligned..
However, the steering box must be set at its dead ahead position .This is a position with a hump [ a slight tight spot in it] as the steering wheel is turned from lock to lock.--Keoke

Thanks guys for your replies. In the manual the toe-in is defined in inches/millimeters. My Garage wants to know the toe-in angle in degres. Any idea?

Toe in is set to 0 degrees plus or minus a 1/16 of a inch. Some manuals say 1/8 inch.. But a service paper was sent to the dealers in the 50s that said to change it to 0 degrees plus or minus a 1/16 inch.. Wheelguy
 
Make sure your garage rolls the car forward a few feet if it has been jacked up. Otherwise you'll be way off.
 
Hi All,

OK, the Healeyā€™s alignment with bias ply tires of the ā€™50s or ā€˜60s is set at 0 degrees, give or take 1/8ā€. Since bias and radials track differently and various sizes from 165/80 to 195/65 are presently in use, wouldnā€™t the alignment settings be modified to reflect these changes?

Huh - mine was set at 1/2" toe out - found out after a few years ownership and some fast miles to and from Terminal 5 - put 600 miles on in one week and lost a good chunk of the outer tread on the front tyres - still plent left for the MOT though.

The local tyre centre put it right for the price of a few Burgers down at MacDonalds, but I think that I quoted 1/8" toe in.
