Wife (Sylvia) STM (Smarter Than Me),
told me that she wanted to go down to the Redwoods.
Me - not being as smart, pulled out the MGB GT,
& was told that she "Wanted to take My car".I realized
then, that she probably was going to surprise me on my
birthday,so I played dumb (not too hard to do).
We ended up at a hotel called the "Scotia Inn",
in Scotia, about 20 miles Soth of Eureka. It's an old inn
that's been there for many years.
They had a band playing until 1 AM,so we figured
that we stay up until then, then go to sleep afer the fest-
ivities.
Well, after 1 AM,a buch of college kids cranked up
the music in the next room (louder then the band was).My
Wife called the front desk - no answer.Called again awhile
later - again,no answer.Called the Sheriff's department,&
was told that the nearest deputy was more than an hour away,
& would probably not respond before dawn.
Music finally stopped around 4AM - we hear arguing,
doors slamming - again,no help from the front lobby.
We paid good money for the room,& got maybe 4 hours
sleep. What should have been a great night out was the worst
experiance that I/we've ever had.
We will be writing a letter to the management of the
hotel. Why do people behave like this?

Well Doug, I'll give you my view on the situation. It's probably because they didn't have their a$$ kicked when growing up and taught to respect the rights of others. No discipline is a major problem that extends it self into many other aspects of life. Respectable people, such as you and your wife have to pay for their ignorance. Kids have been growing up without parental control ever since the wife had to go out and work to supplement incomes. It's a vicious cycle that we have to suffer with. There are too many, little old ladies clubs out there, that protect brats like this. Best example, look at our schools, how many teachers do you know that have full control of the elements their confronted with every day? Not many and it all started at home, somewhere. Sorry guys, but attorneys contribute to this situation every day also, in defending (the rights) of brats like this. As you can see, it's a touchy subject to me. Sorry for the rant, but that's just me. Yes, my pop put his foot on my butt when I needed it and I relayed his message to my sons when growing up. Both collage grads, that also respect their elders! PJ

The youth are terrible these days! We love to complain, and say that things were so much better back in the good ol' days. Some thoughts:

https://jcolavito.tripod.com/lostcivilizations/id20.html

But people felt the same 200 years ago ... and even 2000 years ago.

There were thousands of "teens" in gangs in New York City in the mid 19th century. Youth with no future, abandoned by society, left to wander the streets hiding from the law. Do a web search on "New York City Five Points".

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." - paraphrased from Aristophanes "Clouds".

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint." Hesiod (8th century BC)

"The world is passing through troubling times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress." - Peter the Hermit, 1274 AD.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Just like us.

Doug,
I had a similar situation when staying in Wildwood in NJ a bit over a year ago. We were staying in a retro motel post-summer, when much of the boardwalk was shut down and expected a quiet few nights, but near the end of our stay came the Volunteer Fireman show at the convention center, and the adults were running around outside with their cases of beer and yelling to each other well into the night. Some people will always be self-centered, and not think of others. The only way to avoid this is to stay home and own all the property around your own home...

I somewhat pity people who never learned, and did not have good parents like mine.

I would have crashed their party. New Years Eve has always been amature night for kids.Kind of like the first day of fishing season or hunting season. Heck this year, they shot more hunters than deer on opening day, here in NH.

Sorry to hear a lovely night was spoiled - I might argue though that it is the problem of the hotel staff and not the youth. I travel a lot and this is hockey season, so the hotels are full of kids - it's the staff that make the difference, even to the point of moving rooms, bringing in security etc. etc.

Still, Happy Birthday and enjoy the intent!

Grew up in western PA. My Da went hunting with his bro, bro-in-law and some pals once, in about 1957.
Said he was shot at more on that outing than when he was in the Ardennes.

X2, I was thinking about crashing too. Either it would have killed theior buzz or would have been fun.

or the day before Mardi Gras ( now known as Lundi Gras, a pubilicity stunt to bring people down to the newly opened Riverwalk.)

Doug, the reason no one answered the phone 'cause he was at the party.

Dave is right. That's why I live in the country. Folks are less likely to report gunfire. :jester:

I'm not anti social, I just don't like people. :jester:

Take two German shepards and call me in the morning.

Sounds like my kinda place. What's the bag limit, does it go by weight or total number? What's the going price on German shepards there? :jester:

LEGAL DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A JOKE !!!!!

Wow, sounds like those beds in that
Motel are really uncomfortable.

Can't get no sleep with the neighbors around either.

Doug, go to the hotel's web site and read some of their guests complaints. Sounds like you are not the only ones.

We stayed in an old hotel in the Cascades Catskills a few years back. I stayed awake all night because of unruly guests. Cept these were dead. The place was haunted, for real. No joke.

So ... you met Johnny?

My Wife confronted one of the girl's from that room,
who said that they'd tone it down - that lasted for maybe five
minutes.
Have you ever tried to reason with a large group of ex-
tremely drunk college-ages kids?
Also,I wondering why anyone would bring a loud stereo to
a hotel?
They were also climbing out the window & standing on the
porch above the lobby.
We did get a little bit of enjoyment watching the girl come
down to the lobby around 11:30,as we were having coffee (checkout's-
at 11).She looked pretty rough,& couldn't walk in a straight line.She
went outside,& moved her car from accross the street.
My Wife said that she'd love to see what the room looked like!

What'd ya hear?

A good friend (retire Air Force Colonel) had an issue with one of these types of punks at a self-serve gas station. Kid had his stereo cranked up so loud you could not communicate with the cashier. He asked the kid to turn it down, kid got huffy, buddy lifted the side view mirror off the kids Camaro and handed it to him, and got arrested.
But:

Enter "Guido". I never met him, but a call was made, or so I was told, and after the kid got out of the hospital and was able to walk again, he was observed around town on several occasions with a low-volume from his stereo.

Late in life, but apparently it worked.

Sometimes I wish my buddy (long since passed on) had left me Guido's phone number.

It was the cold zones and the footsteps

BOO!!

Most of the times the cold zones are caused by the body's reaction to fear.

Foot steps now, thatt's another story. IIRC, one of the most haunted places in the country is a hotel in N.O. On Burbon or Royal IIRC, however, with my mememory it might be on Main St in Wisconsin.

I had a haunted hallway when I lived on Prytania. Everyone felt it as soon as they walked in. Weird thing is, I dreamt of the place as a child but I have never been anywhere near this house or another one like it before.

I had just started to move in. While standing in a closet in the hallway, I suddenly realized this was the house from my recurring dream as a child.

Suddenly it all made sense. Everything was there, the girls next door, how the plumbing ran through the house ( what kid dreams of plumbing?!) The gas hot water heater above the kitchen sink, the halway EVERYTHING. I knew everything about this place but I had only been moved in for an hour or two.

As I was explaining this to a friend who was with me, I felt compelled to reach up to a tiny shelf in the closet. I have no idea why I did that. There wasn't anything on the shelf. The land lady said no one had used that closet for over 40 years. My arm just went up towards the shelf.

I placed my hand on the shelf and immediatly felt something and took it down. It was a smal clear plastic key fob from the 40's or 50's.

On it was written "Dream House".

This still freaks me out.
