Whats this hole?

I'm doing some repair work on my transmission cover - the fiberglass has broken away on some of the holes around the base. Now I know the two rectangular holes are inspection points for overdrive and g'box oil, and the hole on the right front top is speedo cable, but what is the hole at top front?

My BJ7 only has the upper hole in the center and was for the speedo, as well as the rectangular one for inspection.

Haven't taken the "whatever is called" soundproof material away to see if there are other holes underneath (nor have taken a look at the inside that I can remember)

Ah, maybe its to do with left hand drive vs right hand drive...?

Yes I think you are right. Here is a picture of my BJ7 and the hole you say is for your speedo cable is there on my car but covered by a rubber plug and I use the center hole. So my guess the factory puts both holes and plugs the one not used based on driver configuration. Therefore on your car you should put a rubber plug in your center top hole. My observation only of course, if someone else has actual data lets hope they chime in.

I'm going to plug quite a few holes in my car... Blanking grommets aren't as cheap as they used to be! The local rubber merchant is charging over a dollar for the smallest/cheapest ones! Don't suppose you fellows in the USA know of packs of mixed size blanking grommets for a good price for sale there that I could order?

My cover is made of fibreglass. Were the original ones fitted in pressed steel?
